ARM says the first $20 smartphones could launch in the next few months.

Don’t expect stellar performance from a $20 phone. But, ARM figures you can take one of the company’s Cortex-A5 processors, slap on a cheap touchscreen, a little memory and storage, and a free operating system like Firefox OS and you’ll have a phone that you can use to surf the web, run apps, and make telephone calls with, I suppose.

This $20 smartphone sounds pretty good since it can also surf the web, run apps along with being able to make calls  and text.

I wonder if the price can be lowered even more by using used/refurbished touchscreens, ram, storage, and a case made out of plastic.

How good will it be though? But yeah, smartphones will become cheap one day as they become amass.

It would be good enough to make calls, text, surf the web, and use social networking Apps like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. It can also probably play 2D games like Angry Birds, and Pong. But, it would probably won't be very good for playing 3D games, 2K-4K video, and using more intensive apps.

I think Smartphones would be very cheap or free someday, but you have to pay high monthly cell phone service costs , or buy expensive prepaid phone cards just to make calls, text, download apps, buy apps, and surf the web.

I agree, I mostly want a phone for phone calls and text, and don't really care about the advance features because I own a PC with a bigger monitor, keyboard, and mouse. A new PC is also faster than any phone.
