Monday night will go down in history as one of the most important days in gaming. As of 10:18pm, on April 5th, 2010, we have a new high score champion in Asteroids. Seattle’s locksmith John McAllister passed the 1982 world record for Asteroids, piling up an astonishing 41,338,740 points on a 1979 Atari classic arcade machine, after 58 hours in a row. He entered in the letters E L F next to his score ending his night in pride.
When the world record officials confirm the score, McAllister, 41, will hold the new world record for a Asteroids’ high score. The previous world record holder’s high score was set back in 1982, only three years after the game’s release, by Scott Safran with a close score of 41,336,440. That certainly is closer than it looks.
