My parents never allowed me access to a smartphone until I entered the university. They deemed it too early for me to have it before being mature enough to make the right decisions using it.

Today we are in world of tech and kids as young as 10 years now have access to smartphone which was never possible in my time as a kid.

For me it would be in their teens after a long talking to on how to use it.

Dealing with kids in that aspect is always very tricky because you can't determine what they are going to do with the phone. I had access to a girl's phone whom we all live in the same estate and I was shocked what I saw in her browser history. She not up to 13 years but 90% of her browser history was on pornhub specifically on lesbian sex.

Well kids do get curious at certain ages.

I think 13 years old would be a good age for a smartphone or cell phone because they may get lost while going out, and need to use a phone to call their parents, or a taxi service to pick them up, and drive them home.

Plus, a smartphone is useful for using educational apps and games which may help them with school work.

It's going to be from at least the age of 13 years upwards I would allow them such freedom to the internet with using a smartphone. They will not use it a day earlier than 13.

That's not bad as long as you are going to provide a level of parental guidance that can help them become really better at utilising the benefits that come with using a mobile device.

Hmm, that's a good question. Trouble is that he will face smartphone when he goes to school or kindergarden. And when other kids have it, he/she would like to have it too. So, I would aim for until 7 years old. If possible, and I can afford, home schooling .
