In 2007, Index Holdings, which owns movie company Nikkatsu and anime studio Madhouse, bought up the majority of Altus stock. Atlus is being merged, and the Atlus name will cease to exist as a registered corporation.
Index Holdings will be merging Index, its mobile content developer, into Atlus. This move looks to streamline the corporate organization.
"Atlus" as a brand can continue; however, Atlus will no longer be registered on the Japanese stock exchange. According to a spokesperson, the Atlus name will continue for both game development and retail sales.
Back in February when it was revealed that Atlus will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Index Holdings, there was concern that new Atlus games will differ from old Atlus ones.
