Xbox 360 fans are being rewarded for spreading the word of Final Fantasy XIII, in the form of an adorable little bird. The "Register, Tweet and Win" promotion encouraged users to register at Xbox.com and use to use Twitter to tweet the hash tag #FFXIIIXBOX, in order to get word out about the game coming to the Xbox 360. The effort was for a previously undisclosed prize, but today Microsoft and Square revealed that it's a Chocobo for 360 Avatars. Users will get their download codes for the Avatar items in late December, and users can still visit the registration page to score their own. Registering now promises a Chocobo whether you use Twitter or not.

The marketing push is part of an apparent effort to disassociate the franchise with the PlayStation brand. The tweeting hash tag was the first method, and users sporting chocobo-laiden Avatars starting in late December should help spread the word before the game's March release. Whether it will be enough to draw players away from a traditionally Sony-exclusive series, however, remains to be seen.
