Multi Baldur's Gate III

Shadowheart "speaking" with the dead

Release date is august 3 2023 for pc and august 31 2023 for Ps5, and they will show the full scope of the game on July 7th, hyped!

“We’ve always been a studio that aims to release on as many platforms as possible, in order of readiness,” said Larian Studios director of publishing Michael Douse in a press release. “We’ve also aimed for the highest possible quality on every platform we’ve released on. We’re at a point where we’re reaching 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5, which is remarkable considering the breadth and depth Baldur’s Gate III aims for. It features over 170 hours of cinematics more than three times the dialogue of all three Lord of the Rings novels combined. It is a massive, expansive game that truly brings Dungeons & Dragons to life, with multiplayer and split-screen co-op, and at a scale that’s roughly four times that of our previous game, Divinity: Original Sin II. Reaching a technical bar that matches our design ambitions felt like the right move, while holding back the PC version when we knew we’d be ready felt like the wrong move in such a busy launch period.”

Larian Studios CEO and creative director Swen Vincke added, “We set out to make a game that would reward player creativity and truly bring Dungeons & Dragons to life in a cinematic way that explores the breadth and depth RPGs can offer. Baldur’s Gate III has become an astronomical game that never fails to surprise, and I’m super proud of the team. We couldn’t have done this without our Early Access community, but it’s crazy to think that all this time they experienced less than a quarter of what Baldur’s Gate III has to offer. I cannot wait to hear the stories our players will tell when the full game releases. It’s time to gather your party.”

  • Seven playable protagonists each with their own rich stories, personalities, desires, and objectives, as well as a best-in-class Character Creation system for custom characters.
  • Play as one of 11 playable races and 31 subraces, with multiple body types.
  • 12 classes and 46 subclasses, compared to Divinity: Original Sin II‘s 10 “schools of spells.”
  • Over 600 spells and actions (excluding upcasts), compared to Divinity: Original Sin II‘s 225 player spells and actions.
Larian will finally explore the full scope of their sprawling RPG on July 7 during the “Panel From Hell: Release Showcase” live show.

Sony posted this on their ps5 blog on ship PLOT stuff in the game lol

Friends, lovers, and enemies

Whether exploring Faerûn with your companions in single-player or playing with friends in split-screen multiplayer, your story is shaped by the company you keep, the bonds you forge, and the enemies you make along the way.

On your long rests between battles and quests, you’ll make camp with others who have undergone the unfortunate process of tadpole insertion into their brains. While Baldur’s Gate 3 offers in-depth character customisation, you can also play as an Origin character: authored, playable protagonists each with their own stories, desires, and alignments.

You don’t have to play as an Origin to enjoy their story and companionship; you may also recruit Origin characters into your party. You may meet others on your journey that can be of help to you; some new friends, and some familiar faces.

Like a cast die, every decision you make in Baldur’s Gate 3 has the potential to alter the course of your story. As you create your legacy, the people of Faerûn take note of your actions, chart your adventure, and make their own judgements based on their own inclinations and expectations. The decisions you make in-game have far-reaching near and long-term effects – but every choice you make is valid; it’s your story. Unless you die. Whatever you did then was probably a bad idea.

These decisions also affect your relationships with your companions. Whether it’s an impish vampire spawn or a beefy archdruid in the middle of a wild shape transformation, in Baldur’s Gate 3 you can romance almost all of your camp companions. And, depending on how you interact with them, you may see different romance scenes for several of these characters during your replays.

Relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3 develop and blossom, or grow sour and dwindle just as in real life. They require maintenance, and are based on genuine admiration from the perspective of each character’s general point of view about the world, and your actions within it. The dating world in Baldur’s Gate 3 is your oyster. It is what you make it… well, give or take a few dice rolls.

You can play as an evil murderer lol

Unlike Baldur’s Gate III‘s other playable protagonists (Origins), the Dark Urge is a fully customizable character. Their class, appearance, species and gender are completely up to you—after all, evil can reside within anyone, irrespective of how they appear.

Stepping into the role of the Dark Urge, you’ll begin Baldur’s Gate III with your memory lost after an unfortunate encounter between a parasitic tadpole and your brain. Now all that’s left is an insatiable urge—an urge that makes itself known in your subconscious, through your deepest thoughts and in your dialogue options.

Followers of Blood in Baldur’s Gate will already be familiar with the Dark Urge’s simple but effective modus operandi: to murder brutally and indiscriminately. Driven to commit some of the most lurid acts of violence that you’ll encounter in the game, to play as the Dark Urge means to either indulge your most depraved impulses or attempt to resist them.

The Dark Urge is guided by Sceleritas Fel, voiced by Brian Bowles (narrator in Divinity: Original Sin II). Fel is a vile and loyal servant who lives only to see Dark Urge return to your rightful, bloodstained path. His words of encouragement are like a poison in your mind, fueling your impulses—but it’s a poison that tastes like honey, if you’re so inclined.

Despite your impulses as The Dark Urge, you are still a member of an adventuring party facing an arduous journey to Baldur’s Gate. Your party, in spite of your urges, will do its best to be there for you. For those party members you grow closest to, you can still form relationships and romances—but how they manifest compared to the others, however, is a tale only you can tell.

Character Creation

Character identity is at the center of Baldur’s Gate III, and its character creator allows customization of everything from your protagonist’s appearance to their stats and background—whether your protagonist be hero, villain, or Ed Sharran, a simple bard travelling the roads of Faerun with his trusty lute and a barely-concealed inner darkness that gnaws and festers, demanding release—the character creator provides a lot of room for expression.

At launch, players will get to experiment with even more ways to create diverse, personalized characters:

  • New skin options like freckles, vitiligo, scars
  • New tattoo designs
  • Heterochromia
  • Lip makeup customization
  • Accessories like earrings and piercings
  • Horn color customization for Tieflings
Adventurers need not be slim or youthful—the addition of an age slider will allow you to create an older protagonist, and strong body types allow for larger body sizes across all genders.

On Game's Length:

"People ask...how much variety is there in a playthrough of Baldur's Gate III. How long is it, how many different ways can it go.

"If you just blitz through it, probably takes a minimum of 80 hours. If you make any kind of distractions whatsoever, get involved in the game, and start to flesh out your own experience, it could run many times that in length."

"Every time you come back into the game there's a new path to discover. Everything is super non-linear in the story, there's so many different consequences. There's a huge amount of variety and replayability as well."

"It's hard to quantify the amount of story in Baldur's Gate III. We have rough estimates. There's a lot of cinematic animation that results in being roughly 3 times the length of the Game of Thrones television series. Word count...there is approximately 1.9 million words being spoken or written."

Latest Dev Interview, the amount of possible story choices is really impressive in BG III, nice!
