Batman: Return to Arkham will not meet its previously announced July 26 release date, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has revealed. A new release date has not been specified.

Posting on the WB Games forum, a company representative said the delay is intended to give Virtuous Games, the development team remastering Arkham Asylum and Arkham City for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, more time.

"After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience," reads the statement.

"We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans."

Better than launching poor games obviously, however I feel like this may be the first time a remaster has being delayed? Poor from the studio involved.

They clearly couldn't take another Batman Origins scandal.

I would say it is either one of two things:
  1. They heard the backlash from not including Origins, so are going to include that too (unlikely)
  2. They heard the backlash from it not 'feeling' like the original games (apparently) and are trying to get the atmosphere better.

number one depends on who is making this collection as origins was made by a different company.

number two would be a bold move as that would mean more time. Though I would like to suggest a third option and actually add the third game.

That's a shame, but I agree with Martin releasing an incomplete game is way worse than delaying.

Reading through some of the comments though, I gotta say, Arkham Origins is not that bad of a game, it is certainly a bad purchase if you buy it at full price but if you see it as an expansion pack for Arkham City (Which it basically is, same game different map/story) then there is no problem with including it, I mean, who would complain about having an extra game in your collection? Arkham games are by no means the holy grail of anything, the third one was decent at best. Just my 2 cents.

And don't get me wrong I am well aware of how mediocre Origins was, but not including it seems silly.

Origins was a good game, just a bit buggy.

Its an external studio remastering them all from what I can tell - they weren't involved before. So I would imagine number one is still possible. By third do you mean Arkham Knight? There would be no reason to do that, they still earn more selling it separately, its already available on newer consoles and there's no need to remaster it.

That sucks. Why don't they scrap it altogether and start working on video games about other superheroes?
Cause its a remastered trilogy that will sell well, so they obviously would still want to release it eventually. They don't tend to take many resources to make so they can still focus on making other games also during this time - like I said, an external studio are remastering it. I would imagine they are still working on new games internally, i.e. Batman VR.

they can still add Arkham Knight on it with all DLC included.

I'm kind of tired of all the focus on Batman is video games. There are so many great superheroes out there that have not been given video games so far.

They already have an Arkham Knight game of the year edition with all DLC on sale for current generation consoles. So it wouldn't be worth it for them.

Huh? When did that come out? How the heck did I miss it?

How many of them can properly be put into video game form like the arkham series was?

WB are reportedly working on a Superman game if that is of interest to you from what I have heard.

Actually I misunderstood. A game of the year edition leaked back in May, and is apparently in the works. I would expect it is likely to come out before the end of the year for sure. There is no way they would bundle it with this game in the works.

good to know, by the time I get around to playing it the game should be pretty cheap.

Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Shazam etc.

Tell me, what's more interesting in your opinion: a rich guy with no superpowers who captures insane people (also with no superpowers) with the help of some gadgets... or a superhero with the powers of 6 ancient gods who battles a supervillian who also has the power of 6 ancient gods but from another civilization (Shazam vs. Black Adam)? Personally speaking, that's a game I'd like to see.

Problem with them though is how do you put their god like power into the game and make it all work like the arkham series did?
