Belkin bought Linksys from Cisco.

“We’re very excited about this announcement,” said Chet Pipkin, CEO of Belkin. “Our two organizations share many core beliefs – we have similar beginnings and share a passion for meeting the real needs of our customers through the strengths of an entrepreneurial culture. Belkin’s ultimate goal is to be the global leader in the connected home and wireless networking space and this acquisition is an important step to realizing that vision.”

Belkin also says they now own about 30% of the retail home and small business network market.

I never knew that 2 companies control 30% of the home network products. I wonder, if Belkin buys another company like D-Link, would Belkin control over over 50% of Networking stuff.

I think I bought a few network cables from Belkin, and they work pretty well.

looks like there trying to corner that market.

Yes, I think Belkin is trying to corner the home networking market, but I think the market is a slowly dying market since most home owners just use the modem and router or Modem/Router combo their ISP sells to them since it is simpler for an ISP to setup everything for them compared to doing it themselves by picking devices and cables which work with their ISP connection.

Plus, the ISP fixes and replaces broken routers and modems for the user if they bought or rent it from the ISP.

I also read an article which says young people in Japan are abandoning traditional wired internet, and just using their phones and tablets high speed internet from their cell phone company , so the US and other countries might be the same.

Plus, it is easier to switch cell phone companies then Wired internet companies since you just cancel your cell phone plan, and use another cell phone, or if it is a prepaid cell phone, you just stop filling up minutes, and those prepaid cards for your cell phone.
