Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that of all the characters in the Smash Bros roster, Little Mac is the biggest loser.
In a Weekly Famitsu column (via Kotaku), Sakurai said that the Punch-Out star has a significantly lower win ratio than the rest of the fighters. That may be surprising to players who have frequently complained that Little Mac is too strong, but that impression could play a part in his stats as well. Though Sakurai says he's balanced with "very pronounced strengths and weaknesses," he thinks the perception of Little Mac has skewed his wins.
"It appears that the biggest reason for his low win ratio is because people fall under the assumption that 'Little Mac is strong!' and all rush to use him only to get pummeled in return," Sakurai said. "He gives the impression of being able to win easier than other fighters which leads to more people using him, but in reality, he's a difficult character to actually continuously win with."
An upcoming balance patch may weaken Mac slightly, but Sakurai says the influx of Little Mac players could help the game achieve a more natural balance as others learn how to counter him.
