The DS version of Blue Dragon debuted in third place over in Japan, according to Media Create's latest charts covering September 1 to 7. Released by AQ Interactive, the little brother to Japan's best selling Xbox 360 title sold 21,174 units.

Two older titles beat it. Rhythm Heaven was at top once again, with 55,276 additional units taking the DS rhythm title above the 650,000 mark. Wii Fit jumped back up to second place with 31,970 units, although this sales figure was level with last week's.

Everything else in the top ten was old. Afrika fell to fourth place this week with 18,567 units. Below it were J League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship (Konami, PS2, 18,342), Fire Emblem: Shin Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Ken (Nintendo, DS, 17,349), Dragon Quest V (Square Enix, DS, 15,454), Band Bros. DX (Nintendo, DS, 14,688), Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii, 14,207), and Inazuma Eleven (Level-5, DS, 13,803).

DS Lite continued its reign in the hardware lead, selling 51,412 units to PSP's 34,462 units. With the new PSP-3000 hardware revision on the way for an October 16 release, it's likely that PSP sales will drop further.

In the console race, Wii took the top spot with 33,128 units. PS3 followed with 8,317 units, just ahead of the PS2's 7,948. Xbox 360 dropped down to 1,044 units.

Next week's hardware chart will include a cheaper Xbox 360 backed by Infinite Undiscovery. It's pretty much guaranteed that Microsoft will top the PS3, but the big question is whether or not it can beat out the Wii.
