Like in most games of the franchise, the bosses in The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds shouldn't really pose too much of a challenge to any players even remotely familiar with the combat in the series. But in case for whatever reason you are stuck, here's my guide to defeating all the game's bosses with minimal effort.

Hyrule/Pendant Quest Bosses

The first three bosses of the game, as well as Yuga's Hyrule Castle battle.

Eastern Palace Boss; Yuga

Oh look, the supposed 'Big Bad' of the game is also the first boss. Remniscient of Ghirahim in Skyward Sword much? Fortunately though, Yuga's first battle is a much easier one than Ghirahim's first fight was, since he only teleports around and summons basic soldiers to attack. So use the Bow you got to shoot him, then hit him with the sword whenever possible. That's literally it as far as strategy goes, since this fight basically doesn't have any.

Tower of Hera Boss: Moldorm

Hey, it's the same boss as in A Link to the Past, the one fought in exactly the same location! Indeed, the battle itself is basically a complete retread of that one, with only a few minor changes to the structure.

To defeat this boss, you need to hit the orb on its tail with the sword. If you can't get it because it's moving too fast and your reflexes aren't good enough, then you can also whack it in the head with the hammer to stun it before going around to the back and hitting it in the tail as usual. It speeds up as the battle progresses, but its attack pattern is hardly the most intelligent in the world.

Just like in A Link to the Past though, you can also be knocked off the roof, forcing you to climb back. Unlike then however, Moldorm actually retains the damage you've done to it when you fall off the roof and make your way back up, so the idea strategy here is arguably just 'go at the thing like a frenzied lunatic and hope to kill it as quickly as possible, since there are healing items below and messing up isn't anywhere near as much of a hassle as in this game's predecessor.

House of Gales Boss: [whatever that tube thing is]

Yeah, I don't know either. Fortunately, it's not a very difficult boss, with the only real issue being the bottomless pit around the outside of the arena.

Put simply, this is another one of those bosses which can't physically hurt you on contact and merely aim to shove you off a cliff instead by knocking you around. Kind of like Big Bully in Super Mario 64 or Topmen in the Galaxy series/Mario Kart.

Unlike this however, you can't knock this thing off the cliff yourself. Instead, what you have to do is use the Tornado Rod to fly up and land on it, slashing away at its eyeball when it opens. It'll then raise up a few segments, so you have to attack those with the sword to destroy them one by one (like a Pokey from the Mario series) to get the eye to open, and then use the Tornado Rod to land on top before doing damage with the sword. Repeat the same process until its dead, since the only change is getting faster and faster in its pinball like movement.

Yuga (battle 2)

And now it's time to fight Yuga in a climactic battle in Hyrule Castle's Tower!

Put simply, it works a lot like the Agahnim fight from Link to the Past. He'll charge around the room as a painting, before becoming three seperate 'forms'. One is real, the other two are magically disguised soldier mooks that appear when you attack. So pick one, attack it, and if real, keep an eye on its movements. Follow the real Yuga til he appears outside the wall again, and strike him for even more damage.

Eventually, he'll merge all three 'clones' back into one, before immediately splitting up again. Do the same as you did above, attacking them at random until you find the real one. Attack him until he eventually goes down for good.

Lorule/Sage Rescue Bosses

The next six bosses of the game, the ones found in Temples and defeated to rescue the Sages.

Thieves Hideout Boss: Blind

First fight up, and dear God is this potentially a hard one. You see, Blind has mostly retained his difficulty from the first game, and so the last part of the battle is pretty much entirely about your reflexes and combat skills rather than item usage. So it's not a pushover.

The first phase however is pretty simple. He's got a shield to counter your attacks, so trick him into doing so by swinging first. Then, merge into the shield, and sneak around the back of him when he's confused before unleashing all hell with your sword.

Soon though, Blind will decide to toss away said shield for good. Now the true fight begins.

So dodge his attacks and charges by constantly moving, and quickly dive in after each of his attemped blows to attack with your sword. Eventually, his head will then fly off and try shooting you on its own, so avoid that while constantly attacking the body with your sword until Blind is defeated.

Desert Palace Boss: Giant Deku Baba

One of the few new bosses in the game, this boss is a giant Piranha Plant like monster you fight in a room full of quicksand. Interestingly, he's also the only part of the Desert Palace actually encountered in Lorule, since the actual bulk of the mission is spent exploring the open version of the area in Hyrule itself rather than the other way round.

The boss attacks by appearing on a random pillar in the middle of the room, and doing one of a few things, like spitting sand, summoning Peahats or just trying to bite Link. To damage it, all you need to do is to use the Sand Rod to raise a path to the boss, and hack away with you sword.

That's all. The battle literally just comes down to endurance normally, a matter of whether you (with your bottles, fairies and potions) or the boss (with its fairly hefty health bar) go down first while trading blows. Nothing more to advise.

Skull Woods Boss: Wallmaster Gauntlet

The second new boss fought in Lorule (gee, this game really likes reusing monsters from Link to the Past as bosses in dungeons, doesn't it?), the Wallmaster Gauntlet is exactly what the name suggests, a giant metal glove with an eyeball in the palm that tries to slam into you for damage. So in other words, an armoured Wallmaster that can't actually teleport you to the entrance.

It's also one of, if not the easiest boss in the entire game.

Why? Because when you're in painting form, this boss can do absolutely nothing to hurt you. What this means is that if you merge into the wall whenever he's about to slam his fist down, you can dodge the attack entirely with the absolute minimum off effort.

And as for how to hurt him? Just wait until he turns red to charge, then merge into a wall. He'll charge at the wall, get knocked down and be open to attack, so just slash him with the sword a few dozen times before he gets up again. Repeat until he's defeated, which usually ends up being about four minutes after the battle's start.

Swamp Temple Boss: Arrghus

The first of two giant eyeball monsters in the game, this thing moves around while surrounded by lots of smaller eyes. So to start, pull off these eyes with the Hookshot, and destroy them with the sword to slowly destroy the thing's shield. Once all the eyes are gone, just attack the boss itself with the sword as it tries to crush you and shoot a (easy to avoid) laser. It's a very simple boss, and is actually easy enough it returns in the final dungeon as a mere mini boss.

Ice Ruins Boss: Kholdstare

The OTHER giant eyeball thing, Kholdstare is found in the Ice Ruins, on a big disc like platform made of ice. It'll shoot ice balls you need to avoid in triangular formations (avoid the centre of the three shots if you don't want to be frozen solid) and mostly just move around on its own accord.

As for how to actually hurt it... well, the Fire Rod of course. Each hit from that melts one layer of the ice surrounding the boss, and once three are gone, you get to chase it down and hack away with the sword for a bit, until the process starts over. Repeat this until it bites the dust.

Dark Palace Boss; Helmasaur King

Another returning monster from the SNES game, the Helmasaur King is initially protected by a giant steel mask across its face.

So to start, break the shield by tossing bombs at it, all while avoiding its other attacks in the process. Eventually, it'll break and phase 2 will begin.

Which will cause the boss to start turning out the lights and charging around the place in an indestructable state! So use your Lantern/Fire Rod to light the torches, and then attack the boss' face with the sword to damage. Keep doing the same thing (lightning torches and then attacking the enemy's face), and it'll eventually go down without too much hassle.

Turtle Rock Boss: Trinexx

Yet another returning boss, Trinexx is arguably one of the most interesting reused Link to the Past bosses. Why? Because unlike the rest, his pattern is mostly rather different to how it was in that game.

To start, he swims around in the lava and tries to shoot geysers of lava at you. Use your Ice Rod to drop ice on him, and after five hits, the next bit of the battle will begin.

This will involve him landing on the mesh and fighting traditionally. No three heads nonsense here, just one which has to be attacked with either the Sword or Ice Rod. He can bite, which can be dodged by just moving away. Or roll around in boulder form, which can be dodged by standing in the very corner of the platform. Eventually though, after enough hits to the head, Trinexx will go down and another Sage will be saved.

Final Boss: Yuga

Yes, Yuga returns as the final boss! Sadly, he now has even more power, since he's hijacked Ganon's body for this fight!

So to start, there are two phases here. In phase 1, he randomly teleports round while trying to attack you with the staff. So dodge his two melee strikes, and go attack him back whenever he leaves himself open for a second or so.

He'll soon pick up his staff and toss it around the room. Keep moving to dodge this, staying as far away from it as possible (fortunately, this attack is over in about half a second at most, so there's not much running to be done). Finally, he'll also try and strike you with lightning, so keep running to outpace the attacks.

Eventually, Yuga will go down. But wait! He's now took the Triforce of Wisdom from Hilda! And now the battle restarts!

This time, he'll start by firing energy balls at you. You know what to do, right? Hit them back with the sword or butterfly net, like against Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time or Agahnim in A Link to the Past! This will knock him into a wall painting.

So now, enter the wall after him. Remember those Light Arrows you got? They work when you're in a wall, so hit Yuga with one to stun him.

Then, jump out, jump back in the wall behind him and shoot him from the back. This knocks him out the wall and leaves him open to your attacks! Strike as many times as possible with your sword to hurt him.

After a short time, Yuga will then recover and start summoning weird ghost birds out of various pictures on the wall. Avoid these as best you can (their movement patterns are highly random and irregular), and he returns to more Dead Man's Volley/energy ball shenanigans. Reflect them back to knock him into the wall.

When he's in the wall a second time though, he starts running to try and 'escape' your shots. Hit him with one in the front/one in the back like before, and then attack with your sword to take away even more of his health.

Soon, the Dead Man's Volley thing will restart, except with two energy balls! Deflect them both to knock him back into wall painting form.

Now though, he actually blocks Light Arrows, stopping you from stunning him normally! So what to do now?

Easy! Just hit him with a Light Arrow to the front, and then shoot one away from Yuga. The arrow will travel the full length of the wall before hitting him in the back, which knocks him out the wall for the last time. Just strike a few more times, and it's all over! You've beaten the final boss in A Link Between Worlds!

Notable Mini Bosses

These are some of the mini bosses. Or more importantly, the ones I feel have enough unique characteristics and difficulty to warrant writing about, since most of the game's mini bosses are just normal enemies fought in large groups.

Giant Bari

One mini boss you face is a Giant Bari, an electric jellyfish like those you've fight elsewhere. Just keep moving and shooting the boss with either arrows or the Fire/Ice Rod to do damage, which should eventually take it down without too much hassle.

Giant Pengator

A giant Penguin type enemy, it's fought as a mini boss in the Ice Ruins. Just hit it with whatever items you've got and keep moving to avoid its attacks, since the boss only fights by trying to bump into you and doesn't have any interesting defences or projectile attacks.

So that's my boss guide! Any thoughts? I'll add pictures when either I can find them on the wiki or get a capture card in the foreseeable future.
 
I'd like to add that if you collect all the 100 baby maiamai and upgraded your sword to max, a spin attack will kill almost anything in a hit or two and suffers no ill effect against electrically charged opponents, such as the Giant Bari - meaning you do not get zapped as you normally would. Also, versus Blind, just use your fire rod (preferably upgraded) to hit it when the shield is gone. Three hits of the fire rod and 6 whacks of an un-upgraded Master Sword in Hero Mode and it fell.

You can pretty much run through this game with an enhanced / upgraded Tornado Rod and enhanced / upgraded Fire Rod as your primary weapons.
 
I'm still struggling with a few of those weird maiamai locations, so no spin attack yet (blame Zelda Informer's terrible guide for that), but you're right, upgraded Rod items destroy everything. Absolutely annihilated Treacherous Tower with them.

lol tornado spin, spin attack, repeat... all 50 floors in under 10 minutes XD also, i can link you to a great maiamai location guide if you want. I used it to find the 100th one that was driving me nuts (i didn't know it would be inside a building).

No, I never figured that out either.

Yeah, any form of physical contact with the head causes it damage, I noticed. Even from the flame pillars occasionally.

That's the strategy I used to fight it. At first I tried to merge into one of the pillars to hide from the turtle, It just tries to bite them which knocks you down but also knocks out the turtle in the process. Unfortunately it's hard to pull off the longer the battle goes.
