At Ubisoft's E3 2011 press conference Gearbox's Randy Pitchford took the stage to announce the next iteration of its Brothers in Arms series. To date, the Brothers in Arms games have been more realistic takes on World War II warfare, requring you to move around battlefields and intelligently flank the opposition to achieve success.
With Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, it doesn't look like Gearbox is interested in that at all. Instead, it's a cartoon-like, hyperviolent take on the World War II shooter, drawing more inspiration from Inglorious Basterds than prior Brothers in Arms games.
The title will feature four main characters, each with outlandish outfits and trademark weaponry, from chainguns to throwing axes. No gameplay was shown, but the pre-rendered cinematic featured a Team Fortress 2-ish visual style and goofy, violent humor. It will feature a campaign with four person co-op support as well as a cooperative multiplayer campaign. It's currently scheduled to be ready in the first half of the 2012 calendar year.
