In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic which forced many developers to work from home, companies have been slowly pushing their workers to return to the office. However, Bungie is taking a different approach.

Bungie, known for the first-person shooter MMO Destiny, announced on Twitter that the company is going “digital-first,” and that “most current and future roles will be fully remote” across a range of US states. Bungie released a small documentary back in 2020, showing how it had transitioned through the initial wave of the pandemic following a density of COVID-19 cases in and around the greater Seattle area.

If successful, it could open to more people able to work in the game industry.

I feel adding more remote jobs for Bungie is a good idea. A lot of people with poor health problems like immune system problems will be risking their lives by commuting to work by bus, taxi, or train, and working at an office can be risky if someone with bad health problems get infected with Covid.

ALways a good thing to do to attract skilled workers especially as some people prefer working from home and are willing to leave jobs that don't offer it

Do you know how that would work with taxes? Do you pay taxes based on where you live or where the company you work for is based?

Because tax law is complicated I feel like the wages would be based on location, and furthermore, the taxes vary also on the state (State Income Tax) but the federal income tax would be the same. But there's also sales tax for shopping, property tax, and other ones less related to this.

I would hope and pray more of this comes out from other developers and to a wider range of locations, especially in the US. Something about that free-market drive can be a defining role in more Quality of Life in the future.

I think it depends on the state rules, but many require you to pay both state taxes. (ie if I lived in Wisconsin and worked in Iowa, I would pay both state taxes.)
