Capcom has announced that they will no longer offer online support for PS2 games Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter at the end of December, and that they're gearing up to get out out of the PS2 online support business altogether. This means that you won't be able to play those games online anymore after the first of the year, though single-player campaigns will be unaffected.
It's not because Capcom doesn't love you, PS2 fans, it's because the company that owned the servers for the online support are going out of business, and they are unable to move the contract to another venue. End of an era? You bet. Just make sure and finish up all the Resident Evil: Outbreak and Monster Hunter business you have online by the end of the month...then move on.
