While it's no secret that Konami's currently working on a third iteration of its Castlevania DS, nothing official has been revealed specifically on the project. Late last week, however, the internet got its first taste of the possibility of Castlevania 3 DS with some shots that popped up from unofficial channels.
While we're the first to question the validity of "leaked" shots in this day and age of photoshopping teenagers with nothing better to do, there's something about the shots that screams "not fake."
They were at least valid enough for us to contact Konami directly for its take on the subject Naturally, we got the expected "Konami doesn't comment on rumor or speculation" statement, but when it's not a flat-out denial you know there might be something there. Officially, though, Konami's holding strong with a "no comment."
If they are real – and we're not saying they are, officially, anyway – the screenshots reveal a few tidbits. First, the screens show off that the sequel may once again spawn from the 2D engine established in the previous two games. They also show that the cutscenes will feature a new art style, going back to slightly more detail in the character portraits instead of the anime/manga.
Third, and here's the biggie, the screens show off not just Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (a feature in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin), but also possible Wii connectivity. This is where the validity of the shots comes into question, but if true, it opens up the big question: how will Castlevania use the Wii to DS connectivity?
