Research In Motion has agreed to censor adult content in the Indonesian market.

The maker of BlackBerry smartphones yesterday announced that it would begin censoring pornographic content for users in Indonesia after pressure from the country’s government.

Reuters reports that the Indonesian Communications and Information Minister, Tiffatul Sembiring, had called for tighter internet controls and wanted RIM to block access to porn sites to comply with the country’s anti-porn law. It appears RIM has relented and will cooperate with the Indonesian government's requests.

"Research In Motion confirms that it shares Minister Tifatul Sembirings sense of urgency on this matter and it is fully committed to working with Indonesias carriers to put in place a prompt, compliant filtering solution for Blackberry subscribers in Indonesia as soon as possible," RIM said in a statement to Reuters.

The news follows 2010 reports that RIM had allowed Saudi Arabia and India access to its encrypted servers. The decision supposedly came after Saudi Arabia made a public announcement threatening to ban BlackBerry devices within the country if RIM did not comply with the requests for access to its BBM servers. India made a similar deal with the Canada-based company not too long after the Saudi deal was reported.

I wonder how far will this censorship go?

Will Blackberry start censuring nude paintings, and pictures of nude sculptures like "Statue of David by Michelangelo" which are considered art in the western world, and begin to censor medical research and help websites since they have pictures of naked body parts.

This can also make people who write and read Erotic stories online have a harder time enjoying their hobby.

One of the main reasons I see Black Berry is co-operating with governments which support censorship because they are becoming less popular since the Iphone, Google Android, and Windows Phone 7 seems like more attractive phones because of their apps, games, and customization compared to the Black Berry which is business like and not as great of an option for entertainment and gaming.

I wonder when Black Berry starts censoring boobies in Indonesia will US, Canadian, and other western buyers be less likely to buy Black Berry phones since they are afraid Black Berry will start censoring boobies and other content in their countries, and many western buyers might not want to support what Black Berry is doing.

Porn isn't a bad thing. I don't see why people think that sexual things are bad. That is stupid to think that because it's a normal, NATURAL, thing for everything that can do it. I would not care if I had a kid that knew about sex when he was say 6-7. Everybody should calm down about it, but no, people make a huge freaking deal about one of the most natural things.

let's be a little sensible, kids do not need to know about sexual things at least until they are past 10. besides, if the news gets word of a sexual act between two 8 year olds people would go apeshit crazy.

Well that is stupid then. It is literally a natural thing! How do they think they'll have grandkids? Or carry on their blood? Or continue the world? I learned when I was 8, most of my friends learned it when they were 6-7. Also, I forgot to mention that nothing really happens if you have sex pre-puberty. No pregnancy, no sperm, no nothing.

Either way, porn is not a bad thing, that's what I'm trying to say.

I don't mean it in a bad way, kids should be care free at that time only worrying about school and video games.

I don't regard treating people as sexual objects natural...

Do you normally film yourself having sexual relations with another then post it on the internet for all and sundry to see? Porn is far from natural or 'not bad'. It encourages men (and some women) to see the opposite sex as mere objects for sexual gratification. I can guarantee that it's more likely men and women would respect each other more if porn did not exist.

First off, I wouldn't do that because 1) I'm 14, and 2) I don't want to. It's your choice. And if some people see it as a object, I wouldn't know why though considering that both genders are in present videos. And I don't think that they would be treated equally. That all goes back to hundreds of years ago, when porn probably didn't exist.

Also, not ONLY in America, but it would be repealed faster here due to high popularity.

As you're only 14 I don't think you would quite understand the impact pornography has on how people percieve others. Well, that is stupid. Porn is a thing for fun, not for "perceiving to be better." Also, men have always thought that they were the dominant species, especially perceived by olden times. I personally think that humans suck, because all we do is shit on each other, the planet, and do very little productive work to keep us alive and keep the planet in tact. So my main point is that porn is for fun, nothing more, nothing less.

Why did you post the same thing three times?

And men aren't a species. They're a gender. Just because they think they're dominant over women doesn't mean it is so and anything that encourages that mindset should be shunned, not embraced.

You may see it as fun as the majority of porn is aimed at your gender. And if porn was for fun why would there be rape porn, faecal porn etc - all of which are clearly not 'fun' for someone on the recieving end.

I never said men were better. I was saying they thought that way, which I don't agree with. And, yes, I meant gender. Humans are a species. Also, the posts were by accident. And those types of porn aren't found easily online. I'm talking about mainstream porn, like sites that I won't mention because it might get flagged.
