Censorship in Video Games

Some people say people are being banned and censored on social media for certain political opinions. Do you feel this in the gaming world? If it is happening in gaming, then how is it happening? How do you feel about it?

I personally think everyone has a right to their opinions as long as they’re not forcing it on others.

Well, there is some things you can't do in games, but I haven't seen anything major, besides Sony blocking cm2 cm2's plot.

Indeed ! While Nintendo is allowing full blown PLOT , and Nintendo is safe for kids lol

Indies are doing pretty well, they don't censor their customers with the information I got elsewhere. It doesn't make sense to deprive users or customers their opinion, everyone should be open to aiding his or her own opinions out.

I've been playing Paradox's for a long time, and I feel like there's a lot of freedom in games.
I hate politics and thought control too

I feel like if someone has a story to tell, they shouldn't be restricted by censorship. I hate that we have such harsh censorship because clueless parents will buy their kids an M rated game and then complain that it's not appropriate for their child.

I will say on the internet there are certain political opinions being shown more than others in the search results. Especially something like a trending Twitter hashtag. As for video games and that medium, I feel that there is only censorship shown by the bigger names. You can find a lot of terrible games and recycled assets on at least two shops. Those are the Nintendo eShop and Xbox. Those are just there for the quick money and viewers. But the bigger name stuff based on graphics or language censorship might give a different public image or please a certain private entity. That being said what difference would it really make in the grand scheme of how good a game could or could not be rated seem trivial. There's some serious tin foil hat stuff in that statement when compared to things like movies and books and then going back to video games. Yeah, the narrative games can have that. Just think of the difference it would make you feel as if you played two different patches separately.

I have mixed feelings on censorship. On one hand i think it's dumb, but on the other hand, I see a lot of modern Japanese games being censored in America due to scantily clad obviously underaged girls. Like people were kicking up a fuss for Xenoblade Chronicles X for covering up the 13 year old girl.

I'm sure those complanining are now on the FBI watch list lol.

I don't like Censorship in video games since it can make games less fun and realistic because the plot of the game change because it got censor. There are ESRB game ratings for parents to read, so they avoid buying M rated games for their kids.

Very true, ESRB and PEGI and a multitude of others were there to protect consumers from certain viewpoints in games like blood, tits, and booze that primarily kids were playing at the time because it was new. But saying they would be less fun feels like a grey area you could prove wrong. If it was a censored plot element you could say death happens but with some euphemism and it would be okay does it really make it less fun? The art of games is working with that limitation or desired action rather than working around it making more work or unnecessary roughness. But odds are these are adults making games so they might find their game fun in an uncensored way. But in general age ratings don't equal the fun you are going to be having.
