Finally, this is a fan fiction by me. Enjoy it!

Chapter 1 – The storm that brewed

Several weeks had passed since the Shine Sprites had all returned to their gathering spot at the Shine Gate in Delfino Plaze, the main town of Isle Delfino. The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, the Princess of the same kingdom, Peach, and Toadsworth, Peach’s long-time steward, had left only several hours ago after enjoying a relaxing holiday. Mario had gone through a lot in the past month, as he was accused wrongly for throwing graffiti around the island. The residents slowly began to trust him though as he recovered the Shine Sprites. And finally, Mario defeated the real culprit and proved his innocence.

II Piantissimo was walking slowly along Gelato Beach. A great runner from right back when he was only 5 years old, he had raced everyone on the island... Including Mario, during his short stay there. But this had a downfall... Now his only real competition had left he had no-one to race with... He’d not only raced, but beaten everyone on the island. And that was no fun.

Suddenly, II Piantissimo spotted something sticking out of the sand. It had a small red tip on it, and a weird emblem on it. It looked like a paintbrush.

“What the heck....?” He thought. He looked at it for a minute, before picking it up. “Hey, this is cool! It’s what that Bowser creature used to frame Mario! Maybe I could use it to run as fast as Mario, or maybe generate a clone of him to race against! I can’t believe my luck!!!”

He held the object up towards the sky. “Ok, Magic Paintbrush! Give me a clone of your previous owner’s last creation!”

.....Nothing happened.

“Ok... Turn me into Shadow Mario!” II Piantissimo called out.

.....Again, nothing.

“Let’s try.... Make me a shadow of Mario!”

.....Once again, nothing at all.

“Argh, stupid piece of crud!” II Piantissimo threw the Paintbrush down onto the sand. Instead of sticking out of it, the Paintbrush now lied on top of it.

“Forget it! I guess I’ll just have to wait to race Mario again.... Wait, I know! The Isle’s boat service! I’ll take a nice boat ride to the Mushroom Kingdom! Or maybe... Yes! That’s it! I could catch a plane! That’s much quicker! Just need to find some coins! Easy!”

And so II Piantissimo left the Paintbrush on the sand, running faster than ever as he went.

Several days later, a storm began to brew just off of the coast of the island. It was going to hit Gelato Beach first and all residents were asked to stay away from the beach as much as possible due to chances of flash flooding. So, the beach was deserted by the time the storm hit.

Most residents had fled to Pianta Village, or Bianco Hills, or Noki Bay in an opportunity to escape the rain. Luckily, the storm never passed over any other locations. But it did hit Gelato Beach pretty hard.

Rain beat upon the shoreline, thunder clapping loudly and lightning crashing into the sand. The rain was falling harshly.... So harshly it completely covered the sand on the small islands just off the shore, and with them... The Paintbrush.

The Paintbrush floated towards the main shore and soon became washed up not too far away from the islands. And than...

CRASH!!!!

A huge bolt of lightning zipped down towards the Paintbrush, hitting it with an immense force before disappearing almost as soon as it had appeared.

The Paintbrush was thrown several meters further in land, onto the grass. As it rolled slightly on the grass, it began to change color... It slowly became almost like a transparent color, but maintaining a strong blue tinge to it.

Slowly but surely, something seemed to emerge from the tip of the Paintbrush... It was the same color as the Paintbrush... First a hand, than an arm, than a head, body, another arm, and finally legs.

The thing seemed to pull itself out of the tip of the Paintbrush, and sat on the grass.

“What... Happened? Where am I?” The odd creature looked at the sky. “Ugh... That doesn’t look good at all. I need to get out of here... Fast!”

It noticed the Paintbrush and picked it up. “Well, I still have this... I wonder what happened to that guy in red and blue? It wasn’t my fault I was under control from that... Thing!”

It spotted a nearby surfing shack, only a little bit to the West. “That looks like it’ll hold up. I’ll stay there until this storm survives. Odd... I think I know this place.........”

The thing ran towards the shack, leaping up the stairs to it quickly. The shack wasn’t as bad as it had thought... The roof was holding back the water extremely well and the rain didn’t seem to be coming through anywhere on the sides.

“I’ll stay here... Until the storm subsides. Then I’m off... I must know where I am.”

The only problem was the lack of a blanket, or pillow, or even a mattress. “At least its shelter.” The creature said to itself.

that is pretty d@mn good. keep it up!

I agree! Just figured I better give it a read and now I'm captivated.

I'm glad you like it so far! Here's Chapter 2!

Chapter 2 – The Deserted Beach

It took several hours before the storm finally began to even show signs of weakening. Although it tried its best, the creature just couldn’t drift off to sleep, because of all the noise that was going on around it.

“Stupid storm... Go away already!” it shouted.

After the storm started to weaken it took another hour at least to finally break apart, leaving nothing but a clear blue sky and a very bright sun.

“Gah, I’ll never get to sleep now until nightfall. At least it’s clearer, and I can see where I’m going now the wind isn’t throwing sand into my eyes. Too bad I don’t have any shades... That sun is actually a bit too bright! Now, to figure out where the heck I am...”

The creature jumped quickly out of the surfing shack, only to realize that the water had risen right up the beach. It wasn’t too deep at all on the grass, but to the creature it felt like one large puddle.

“OH, YUCK!!!!” The creature screamed, quickly bouncing in between two nearby trees to get to the top. “I hate water!” it yelled. “Thank goodness for the Wall Jump!”

The good thing was that now the creature had got a good viewing point. Facing the sea, it looked to the left... “No good. That’s the hut I was in, and then a cliff face.” It than looked to the right... “Hey, that looks like another hut way over there, on the other side of the beach! I wonder if I can find someone there! Ooops...”

The creature looked at the ground. For a split second, it had forgotten the ground was flooded. “Looks like I’ll have to think like a monkey, and jump from tree to tree...”

The creature jumped off the tree it was standing on, and bounded on the next, than the next, and the next. ‘I sure hope this isn’t all for nothing!’ it thought.

After only a few minutes at most, the creature had arrived on the top of the last tree. “That’s an awfully long jump to that shack, but I can make it if I do a little...”

“SPIN JUMP!!!!”

The creature ran in a tight circle on the treetop, and jumped, rotating extremely fast. Using the Spin Jump, it floated gently down to the roof of the shack.

“Whoa, are they spikes in the middle? I don’t want to get skewered. But *gulp* is that... water... OVER the walkway?? Still, I guess it’s not too deep...”

The creature jumped down and landed with a gentle splash on the walkway. The water barely covered the soles on his shoes. “Yuk...” it said.

The creature began to walk into the hut, which was only a few feet away. It took a few minutes though, due to every step being accompanied by mutters of “Eww...” or “yuck...” or “Gross...”

After what felt like half an hour, the creature walked into the hut. “Hello? Anyone here?” it asked.

There was no reply.

‘Maybe whoever owns this hut knew about the storm that was coming and evacuated...’ it thought. ‘Mind you, so would I if the floor of my house was covered in one milliliter of water.’

Deciding that there was no-one in the hut, the creature made sure to quickly exit it and jump back up to the top of the hut. “Now how can I get back to the shore without putting a single foot in the water?” it wondered out loud.

“I know... SPIN JUMP!!!” The creature cried, jumping off the shack. It was a good jump, but even a Spin Jump can’t cover the vast vertical distance or horizontal distance to make it back to the top of the tree. ‘Oh, bother... That was a bad idea.’

The creature landed with a larger splash in the water, standing on the sand below. To make matter worse, it noticed that the walkway to the hut was raised a bit higher than the sand, so now the water was completely covering his shoes!

“DIIIIIIIIIISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” The creature yelped, and with a flurry of splashes, it shot straight out of the water and wall-jumped very quickly off of the nearby tree and up a small cliff onto... Dry land!

“Phew... Dry land at last!” The creature turned to face the water, poking its tongue out. “Nyah nyah nyaaaah! Take that, stupid water!”

The creature suddenly noticed a large pillar in the middle of the area he was now standing in. “What is THAT??”

The tower was extremely high up, with four smaller towers around the bottom. These looked like they had large mirrors on them, but they were all shining at the top of the tower, redirecting the sun’s rays.

“Hey, I remember now! This is Gelato Beach! How’d I get here? And where’d that creature go... The one who was controlling me? Ah, that doesn’t matter now. I need to find at least someone, so I can try to get back to Delfino Plaza. I have no idea what direction it’s in... If I remember correctly, there’s a large gap just over there” It said, gazing at the cliff face nearby and noticing a small notch in it. “Yep. I can wall-jump straight up there, since the Dunebud needs water to activate the hidden stairs... Hey, if that’s the case, than why haven’t all the Dunebuds down there gone haywire? I guess they know it’s a flood and the water could be around for a while... Or maybe the only pop up when the sand surrounding their area is dry whilst directly underneath the Dunebud is wet... And right now, the whole beach is soaked. I guess that’s what it is.”

The creature ran towards the gap in the cliff and quickly wall-jumped to the top. “There are the telephone poles. "If I keep heading straight on, I’ll get to the highest point on the beach...”

Sure enough, the creature reached the top, and slowly walked down the steps that lead to a marvellous view of the whole beach. ‘It’d look even better if that tower wasn’t so huge, and got in the way of the view...’ it thought.

“Hey, hang on... There’s no-one here!!” the creature realized.

‘They MUST have known about the storm, and evacuated the beach...’ the creature thought. ‘So, in that case....’

“WHERE THE HECK DID EVERYONE GO????!!!!” It shouted, raising its arms to the sky, and looking up.

Sorry for the lack of updates everyone... I really had no excuse for it.

Anyway, here's Chapter 3!

Chapter 3 - Mirror Madness!

The creature sat on the edge of the steep cliff, staring into the tower where a large egg-like thing had broken open.

“What should I do now? The natives might not be back for weeks, or even months! How am I supposed to get to Isle Delfino, when there’s no-one to tell me which direction I need to go?”

The creature finally stood up. “Still, I know where I am. That’s a start.”

Suddenly its stomach rumbled. ‘Guess I should go find something to eat... But what? There isn’t anything to... Oh, hang on! This Beach is famous for its watermelons! I’m sure I can find something to eat there, and it may even last for a few days!’

This put the creature in high spirits, and it bounded off to the right, and then gently onto the ledge it had previously climbed up to avoid the water. “Maybe I can get on one of those mirror things, and take a good look around for a watermelon... They can’t be too difficult to spot; they are pretty huge around here.”

The creature bounded to a nearby tree, and using the leaves for extra height to jump off of, it bounced towards the closest mirror.

Upon landing on it, the mirror started to move. Only slightly at first, but than it really started to tilt in the direction of where the creature was standing on it.

“Whoa... This thing is tipping! It’s hard to keep balance...” The creature said as it began to start sliding off of it.

The mirror tilted even more, and the creature was forced onto its stomach, sliding down the mirror with a sort of squeaking sound, before finally landing back on the ground.

“Well, that was a bad idea. I wonder if the other mirrors are like that?” The creature picked itself up and headed towards the next mirror. It jumped on; only to jump back off very quickly as it too started to move.

“Different mirror, same situation. What about the two on the other side of the tower?” With that the creature bounded towards the other side, and leaped onto the third mirror.

Straight away, the mirror started to tilt. “Nope... That means there’s only one left I haven’t tried.”

The creature quickly jumped off of the third mirror and onto the fourth.

“This one tilts just like the others, darn it. Looks like I’ll have to do my watermelon spotting from an... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!”

The creature, not realizing how long he’d been standing on the mirror, was leaving it exactly like he’d left the first... Sliding down the mirror on his stomach.

It finally hit the ground again. “I don’t think I can spot a watermelon from an ‘argh’. I’ll try to spot one from a tree instead.”

The creature picked itself up once more and jumped to the nearest treetop, a flat hand above its eyes like it was looking for something. It looked back towards the cliff.

Luckily, the tower was not in the way this time.

“It looks like there might be something up there... to my right. I wonder... I could try jumping, and see if I can find out what it is. I’m not wasting all my energy until I know what it is and whether its edible.”

The creature took a single jump, but he didn’t get a long enough glance of the object to see what it really was. “If I was just a little bit higher up, I could see it. There’s only one thing for it than...”

The creature jumped back onto the land, and then back onto the closest mirror. “Hang on... I just had a thought about this...”

It ran to one side of the mirror, and the mirror tilted towards the creature’s weight. The creature than ran as fast as it could to the ‘higher’ point of the mirror, and looked at the object.

“Aha! So it IS a watermelon! .......Woah!!”

The mirror had no started to tilt back towards the creature, much more fiercely. “Oh no you don’t... I’m not falling off this time!”

The creature spent several minutes running from one end of the mirror to the opposite side to try and retain the mirror’s balance. After running towards almost every side of the mirror and slowly reducing the amount of tilting, the creature finally stood in the middle.

The tilt had finally stopped. It looked down at the mirror.

“Ha! I told you... Hey, is that me?”

The creature looked at its own reflection. “So that’s me... Shadow Mario. Odd, I’ve never seen what I look like till now. Do I really look that color?”

The creature looked at its hands and arms. “Haha, I hate water but I look like I was damn well made from it!” Shadow Mario laughed.

After several minutes, he finally stopped laughing. “I haven’t laughed like that before!” he shouted.

Just then, he heard a rumble and looked down at his stomach.

“Oh right... You want food, don’t you? Better get back up there and start eating that watermelon...”

Shadow Mario took a huge leap, and landed on the ground from the center of the mirror he was on. With a quick dash, a few wall jumps, another quick dash and a ground pound, he’d gotten to the watermelon and smashed a few pieces off of it.

“I sure hope this is tasty!” he thought.

You are an awesome storytellerer.

Thank you!

Here's Chapter 4! (I wasn't going to let THIS kind of opportunity go to waste since you encounter this in Super Mario Sunshine... I thought it would be awesome to include it!)

Chapter 4: One HUGE Problem

Shadow Mario put his paintbrush down on the ground beside him, and slowly started to chomp his way through the piece of watermelon. ‘Hey, this isn’t bad!’ he thought, and began to eat a bit faster as his stomach rumbled again.

As Shadow Mario began to break off the third piece of watermelon, the sky suddenly turned dark... very dark. “What the...” As Shadow Mario looked up to the sky, he heard a humongous “SCREEEEEEECH” that sounded like it came from a giant bird, one much bigger than the watermelon. He dropped his watermelon piece and abandoned the watermelon altogether, grabbing his paintbrush as he scrambled to his feet and dashed away like a Chain Chomp was on the loose and targeting him.

“I am NOT waiting around to find out what the heck that was! I might not be able to leave the beach, but I can do something else that’s hopefully just as good!”

Shadow Mario dashed to the highest point in town and slid down the slope, ending up where the mirrors where. He then made a run for the nearest tree and jumped to the top of it, and climbed down the trunk just enough so that a huge palm leaf covered him, making him ‘invisible’ from above.

‘And that thing is to HIDE!’ he screamed in his brain.

Suddenly realization kicked in. ‘Ok, so it’s not the BEST hiding spot, and I probably could’ve done better, but this will do... Or maybe I’ll... Rats, now I’ve gone and talked myself into it. It’s either now or never... I just hope that thing... whatever it is... doesn’t see me.’

He leapt down from the tree back towards the mirrors. ‘I’ll hide under one of the mirrors, behind the stand it’s situated on. That’ll help, so long as the creature doesn’t come from another direction...’

Shadow Mario was now panting a bit. He was absolutely scared out of his skin. And just then, he had another thought.

‘I know! I’ll head down to that shack I stayed in during the storm only a few hours ago! That’s perfect! I can hide under a bench or a seat or something, and blend right in because the floor’s almost the same color as me!’

Shadow Mario jumped out from behind the mirror, and shouted “YES!!!!” at the top of his lungs, before very quickly covering his mouth. Right then, he heard another "SCREEEEEECH!!!".

‘Oooops... I’d better move very quietly from here on out...’ he thought.

Treading as lightly as possible, Shadow Mario ran in the direction of the beach, but stopped dead at the small cliff.

‘I didn’t think this through... I am NOT touching that water at all. But I need to remain unseen by that thing. I know... I’ll just jump from tree trunk to tree trunk! The leaves of the trees will provide cover, and better still I won’t have to put my foot in that water!’

Shadow Mario carefully jumped to the nearest tree and swiftly climbed down the trunk a little before jumping to the next... And the next.... And the next.

Finally he had reached the tree closest to the shack. ‘One more jump and I’ll be safe!’ He thought.

What happened next happened so quickly that if you blinked you would’ve missed it.

Shadow Mario jumped and in midair, he looked out to sea. He saw the creature that was making the horrible screeching noises. And it seemed to see him too!

Faster than Shadow Mario could say “Mama Mia” it had swooped down and grabbed him with its beak in one great WHOOOOSH! It then started climbing directly upwards, to avoid hitting the small cliff, not to mention the trees.

Shadow Mario had his eyes closed, but was struggling to free himself, swinging this way and that and flailing his fists and paintbrush at the creature. “Hey! What’s the big idea?! What’d I do to deserve this! Hey!! Put me down!!! NOW!!!”

Shadow Mario opened his eyes and the first thing he noticed was how high up he was. “Uhhhh... I TAKE THAT BACK! DON’T DROP ME!!!!” he screamed.

The creature screeched again, this time it seemed to do it without opening its mouth, and Shadow Mario put his hands over his ears to block it out, luckily without dropping the paintbrush.

He looked up... and finally saw what was holding him by its beak, miles above the beach.

“Its... The legendary Sandbird!!!” he cried.
