Rules:

Pick two characters to VS each other. The next person who responds decides who wins and must state their reasoning. Then afterwards they choose their two characters to face off and so on from there....

Also noting that it's important to list where they're from (a series works best) so it's easier for people to do a little researching on the character before they start making decisions.

Thwomp (Super Mario Bros.) Vs. Whomp (Super Mario Bros.)

Whomp, because a Thwomp can't really move horizontally. As a result of this, the Whomp can just walk over and smash down on the Thwomp after it hits the ground.

Yoshi (Super Mario Bros) vs Rambi (Donkey Kong Country)

 

[Cha]

Yoshi has a better chance on winning. Though Rambi can charge forward against Yoshi, Yoshi's tongue can extend and eat him. And once you're caught by his tongue, it's over. Therefore, Yoshi wins.
