sourceThe developers behind Child of Light are now a core team at Ubisoft Montreal.
In an interview with CVG, Lionel Raynaud, Ubisoft Montreal's VP of Creative, said that Ubisoft is "super happy" with the success of the digital-only RPG. "The team learned a lot about RPG mechanics during development and this has resulted in us creating a core team. The people who made this game now want to work together again, whether it's on a small game or not."
"This dynamic has incredible value in the industry and it's what we want to do: we want to create core teams that want to make great games," Raynaud said. "So yes, we will encourage other initiatives like Child of Light and there's a chance that we will have many more games like that in the future."
Released in April, Child of Light, with its personal feel and hand-painted art style, was vastly different from Ubisoft Montreal's big titles, such as Assassin's Creed. The departure paid off, and now the company is interested in developing more projects in the same vein as Child of Light.
"For me it's important for projects like Child of Light and Far Cry: Blood Dragon to exist and to know that there is a place for them here," said Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat.
This sounds good.
