There was no in-person Comic-Con in 2020, and there won’t be one in 2021 either after the show’s organisers announced a decision to “postpone” it until 2022.

It is the policy of the organization to continue to closely monitor information from local and national healthcare officials as it pertains to the COVID-19 pandemic. Never could we have imagined what the world experienced in 2020 and continues to experience today. While we are buoyed by the rollout of the vaccine and the growing number of individuals being inoculated, it appears that July will still be too early to safely hold an in-person event of the magnitude of Comic-Con. For this reason, we have made the challenging decision to postpone Comic-Con 2021 as an in-person gathering until our 2022 dates.

In place of an in-person event, there’ll be a Comic-Con@Home event run around the same time. And in more promising news, while the main Comic-Con has been pushed into 2022, there’s scope for a smaller show to be held in-between as a kind of test run:

we believe that launching a smaller in-person event at a later time may be a safe alternative. For this reason, we are happy to announce that San Diego Comic Convention is planning to present a three-day in-person convention in San Diego in November.

Not too surprised. I do wonder if they would have run the event for vaccinated people if the vaccine rollout had been a bit earlier. Or would they not risk angering people by making them get vaccinated if they wanted to come?

hard to say, look like 2021 is another canceled year so hopefully 2022 will be better.

I am not surprise that Comic-Con 2021 is cancelled again since a lot of people may still not be vaccinated. Hopefully, Comic-Con 2022 will happen.

I figured this would be cancelled or delayed since we are in the middle of the pandemic. Now, once the pandemic is over, this may be a different story. They may be waiting to see what happens once enough people start getting the the vaccine....

people believe we're at the end of it really :P

Well, yeah. But you have to convince enough people to get the vaccine though. There are people out there that believe Covid is fake and all that.

kind of similar with anime expo too. Last time I went was around 2017, I was hoping to go again, but I was busy the previous years. I hope to go again in the future, but who knows when that will be. Either way, must be patient-- hope this will all be over.
