Corning has unveiled a new high speed data cable that it calls the USB 3.Optical Cables by Corning. These cables are capable of high data transfer speeds over a longer distance than copper cables can achieve. Corning says the optical cables can support transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps over a distance of 30 meters.

This is one fast cable. I wonder would USB 3.Optical would be the only cable people would need to connect to faster wired internet, connect a monitor to a PC, and connecting hard drives to a PC.

I like the fact there will also be interchangeable connectors with this too, that is some selling point along with the potential to get a transfer rate of 5Gbps, would certainly make back ups much faster that's for  sure.

I wonder would the 5GBps would make motion controllers like the Microsoft Kinect, Gaming Keyboard, and Mouse more responsive because of the increase speed of the USB connection.

I think the 5Gbps speed would make it possible to hook up a 4K camera to their computer to make web video calls in 4K resolution, and record video directly to their PC in 4K with a 4K video camera,

I suppose that's possible as it's a bit like what fibre optic has done for broadband, replace the wiring, it goes faster.

This sounds great and all, but how much does this cable cost?
