Yes, once the internet, cable TV and streaming game companies like Onlive and Gaikai team up to offer fast internet, and gaming for a low "subscription" price like 10 dollars a month many people just choose to stream their games directly to their Google Smart TV, settop cable boxes, Apple TV, Tablet, netbooks, laptops, smart phones, Windows or Mac Computer rather then putting money into buying a new console which can cost hundreds of dollars without any games. While you can spen hundredss of dollars to stream games for many years if the price stays the same.
Kind of like how Netflix, and Hulu are causing more people to buy fewer DVDs, not subscribe to movie channels, and rent less from video stores.
But, Streaming games does not threaten the TV buisness of the Cable Internet Company, so more TV/Internet providers might be more willing to make the internet faster, and more reliable for streaming games to set top boxes, PCs and smart TVs.
The Technology already exists, but most people with slower or unreliable internet can't use it since high speed internet is too expensive or not available in their town.
