Well, there's always talk of Nintendo doing so, and Sega did in the past, but do you think Sony might become a third party game and console developer at some point?
Hopefully not. Ive always liked Sony especially in their old days, when gaming consoles were varied and had unique game libraries. They are a good rival for Nintendo and Microsoft and makes them want to work even harder to create amazing games.
As for Nintendo, if they ever went third party, I would be devastated.
Oh man, if that were to ever happen, it would get REALLY intense between Nintendo and Microsoft. I don't think Sony's going to do that anytime soon, though.
Apparently, Sony has been buying a lot of other IPs so if they do not make sales on the PS4 they can become a 3rd party developer. If the PS4 does not do well in sales, they are completely dead as a 1st party dev. R&D costs and manufacturing and the development for first party games and advertising revenue will make them in the hole too great.
I could never imagine Sony being a 3rd party. Im just stuck trying to decide for that would be a good thing or if it could cause a bunch of problems.
My major concern would be what will happen to the PS Home server when it does... I have invested far too much money on virtual items on there to want to see anything happen to it @.@
