I think they could personally. Think about it for a minute.
They're not backwards compatible with earlier console games, they're high priced and they have a fairly mediocre launch line up.
And for whatever reason, the likes of Grand Theft Auto V is only on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Isn't that a bit of a potential problem console sales wise?
Additionally, Call of Duty could be a curse as much as a boon when you think about it. I mean, why do people buy these games?
For online multiplayer.
What consoles will most people be playing it on? The ones already out. Call of Duty Ghosts is also on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
What can't you do on the new gen versions? Play against your friends using the Xbox 360/PS3 ones.
So why should these random online multiplayer/Call of Duty fans even upgrade? Because the minute they do, they end up limited to playing against the (smaller) subset of people who did the same rather than the huge audience that still plays the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the games. The only way it makes sense to upgrade is if everyone you know who likes the series has also decided to upgrade.
What do you think? Could these issues hold back the new consoles and their christmas sales?
