could we play 3DS games with the DS lite?

I was thinking today why nintendo had that little edge added to the side of it's 3DS cartridge as seen here in the middle and I'm thinking it's to prevent people from using it on the Ds lite.

From what I can tell, there using the same cartridge as the DS lite so they may not be able to stop it from working on the DS lite. so if my theory is right, anyone who has access to something sharp don't need a 3DS handheld to just play the game.

I doubt it. After all the money Nintendo lost due to hackers and the R4 I don't think they would let something like that happen.

The edge wouldn't effect the regular ds games from being played on the 3DS, correct? If you can't play regular games on the 3DS, Nintendo's screwed.

Don't count on it. 3DS cartridges take 8GB, DS take 2-4GB. Don't see it happening for a long while.
