CNBC reported that, during a meeting with the UK's National Security Strategy Committee, chief scientific advisor Patrick Vallance cast doubt on ever eradicating the virus, despite the ongoing race for an effective vaccine. "The notion of eliminating COVID from anywhere is not right, because it will come back," Vallance said. "We can't be certain, but I think it's unlikely we will end up with a truly sterilizing vaccine, [that is] something that completely stops infection, and it's likely this disease will circulate and be endemic, that's my best assessment."

According to the Centers For Disease Control, endemic refers to a disease or infectious agent's constant presence or usual prevalence in a population. For example, varicella zoster - the virus that causes chickenpox - is considered to be endemic in the US. It isn't eradicated but instead is controlled and mitigated through a highly effective vaccine. While it's unclear just how effective a COVID-19 vaccine will be, it's an important step in reducing the spread, just as the flu shot is in minimizing influenza cases each year.

I feel it can be a good idea for many people to wear a mask, and social distance even if the vaccine for the Coronavirus is available until it is proven the vaccine works for most people and Covid19 does not exists in most places. There is always a chance the vaccine won't work very well for some people.

I agree with froggy people need to have right information on what to do and what not to increase in cases due to lack of information

I believe it's not going to be easy to get rid of it.
It's just that..... It wouldn't be easy... Still, probably that's just my.... Wish...
Yikes...

Until there is a big vaccine then life will be different. Even that we all don't know what is going to change over time.

Well we haven't really been good at actually getting rid of the common cold. We still have influenza A/B and other seasonal flus throughout all humanity. Best we can do is herd immunity for the virus, boost our immune systems with essential vitamins and eat right.

I thought the common cold strains changed too much to get a cure for?

There's a few reasons.

One of them being, which you're probably right on, is the rapid mutation of said flu cells that makes it difficult to kill off completely.

There's also the fact that not everyone is the same and one "Cure" could either treat people fully or outright kill them.

The last reason is because, as I said, not really investing a way to find a cure because of lack of research as well as other factors like taxes of different countries going into bigger issues like homelessness and starvation

Eh, maybe we have a cure if there was less money put towards war but whatever.

I also feel there maybe a cure for Covid by now if more money was spent on medical research for Covid and other illnesses.

I feel there maybe less Covid related deaths if less money was used for war. I remember there were face masks, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies shortages at hospitals, and other places around the world.

It is not about the money, I know I read they are well funded. It just takes time, lots and lots of time.

The Covid Vaccine companies may also need a lot of super computers, scientists, doctors, and other staff which may shorten the time on finding a vaccine for Covid.

I believe they have a lot made, but it takes a lot of time to see the results from those who come in to be tested for it.

So it sounds like they do have a vaccine ready to put out on the market. Though sounds like its only good once you get it?

I feel many people may need to wait many more month to years to get the vaccine because the earth has a lot of people, and there may not be enough vaccine factories to make a lot of bottles of vaccine.
