CyberConnect2's latest game, .hack//Link, just saw release in Japan. They're not wasting any time moving on to their next project, it seems.

The studio has opened a teaser countdown site for a new game. The page is counting down to a March 18 (Japan time) reveal.

While there's no indication of the platform for the new game on the teaser page itself, a listing at the CyberConnect2 top page confirms it to be a DS project.

Outside of .hack, CyberConnect2 also frequently serves as developer on Naruto games. In the PlayStation days, the studio made a couple of original IPs: Silent Bomber and Tail Concerto.

update:

As we reported here last week, Nartuo and .hack developer CyberConnect2 has been teasing a big DS game announcement for this week. As usual, the announcement leaked out in advance through Famitsu.

The Fukuoka-based developer is hard at work on Solarobo, an original DS RPG. They've actually been at work on the game for 10 years now, which is when the idea for the project was first formed. Actual development started three years back.

Solarobo tells the story of two races, the Nekobito and Inubito. These names translate to "Cat People" and "Dog People." Matching up with the names, the characters in the magazine all have human bodies and either cat or dog faces.

Set in the floating island world of Shepherd Republic, you take control of Red Savarin, one of the dog type. On your adventure, you'll be accompanied by your younger sister, Chocolat Gelato, and a mysterious cat person named Ell Melizee.

You'll spend time controlling Red both on his own and as pilot of a mech called Dahak-AZ103. When running about, Red can climb ladders, break objects, combat enemies using his gun/sword combo, and swim. When piloting the Dahak mech, you can grab enemies, pick up crates, and grab and toss missiles back at enemies. There are some sequences that will require that you be in a certain form.

Although CyberConnect2 considers this an RPG, it looks like there will be a strong action component. The game will even feature multiplayer support for up to four. Famitsu lists Wi-Fi Connection support, although it's unclear if this means you'll be able to play over the 'net.

Solarobo hits Japan this year through Namco Bandai. A release outside of Japan has yet to be announced. Stay tuned to the CyberConnect2 teaser site for a full unveil later this week.
