Dealing with people who wouldn't want to end the call

I say I have to go and end it, I will not be held out.

When I'm at home, I've had some calls where someone has tried to sell me stuff and they want to keep on and on and on. I'll just hang up on them. Once I say "no", that's it. I don't have the time to argue with you or listen to you drone on and on.

If it's someone you have to deal with at work, tell them you have a meeting you need to go to or you have to go to the bathroom. If something like that doesn't work, just apologize to them and say you have to go and hang up quickly before they can say anything. If they can't understand that you are at work and you are there getting paid to do a certain job then it seems they have a problem.

I often get surveys calling me.
I'm not arguing. I'm telling them that I'm not interested. And then I end the call. I know it might seem rude, but I've found that actually talking only means they push to do the survey (as that's what they're instructed to do) or they keep calling back.

Now if it's someone whom I like to talk to but they're a bit long winded. I'd just say I had to go. That I'll give them a call later on. Sometimes I really have had things I needed to do. (Like get ready and go to work.) But even if I don't have pressing matters to attend to I don't always want to spend a half hour or more on the phone.

I'm with VirusZero. If it's someone I want to talk to, then I'll talk to them all day long. If I can't talk to them, then I'll just tell them I can't talk right now and agree to call them back later.

I better try what witchassassin suggested.
If I can hang up before they can respond, then it will be my win and I don't have to deal with them for the time being.

If they call back, I say get the air horn ready :P
