Death Note Without L?

I believe that most of us watched this anime at one point, but just to make sure: have you watched this anime? Finished it? If you haven't come very far... be warned: major spoiler here!

I have liked it very much! There were days when I have watched several episodes a day and was really reluctant to stop. The mystery kept the show going and the characters were instrumental in bringing the drama to its peak. Ryuzaki was my favourite character. I just adored his thoughts and ideas, and his approach to everything, the challenges, the taunts, the tension, especially in the beginning. As I'd said: the mystery kept the show going. He was like Japanese version of Sherlock Holmes and as I also like Sherlock Holmes, I just couldn't resist. The more I watched, though, it became more obscure and sometimes felt ''pushed.'' Some twists, though unpredictable, didn't seem well executed.

I haven't said goodbye to Ryuzaki yet. That's where I stopped watching. I did watch one episode after he's gone, but that's it. It's just not the same without him. I don't believe it can be. For me, the show died with Ryuzaki.

What are your opinions? Who was your favourite character? How much did you watch? Did you finish the series?

I hope I didn't ruin the anime for you.

SPOILER ALERT

I loved it but the quality of it definitely fell off after L's death

Me too!! Anime just wasn't the same. After he was gone, everything changed. And the new "L" wasn't even likable. Let's be honest, no one, no matter how bright or good at solving mysteries and crimes, would be good enough after L. Even if they got Sherlock Holmes to play the role... no.

Well, maybe we're talking from an overly subjective point of view, but I did try to give it a chance... didn't work out for me.

I can't even imagine such a series o.O
L is the heart of death note
And yes, claraviolet, well said: L was the heart of Death Note.

I've watched the anime a long time ago, I think 5 or 6 years ago, so I kind of forgot the details in the story. I only remeber that L dies before Yagami, and that Yagami is killed by a Soul Reaper.

Till L, the pahtos was different; I felt as if L could solve the mytery, and solve it in a way that the minimum number of people got hurt. Instead L kicks the bucket first. After that, the plot twists and things become different. We get new characters, and all that. Not saying that the anime devolved or was bad now, but just that L was kind of a comfort.

Anyway, saw this post; just wanted to post out of nostalgia.

He is a bit like sherlock holmes and without L, no one can take down light.
Even melo and near needed L, to do the initial setting.
So, it's really hard to imagine death note without L.

It would have ended earlier, but doesn't mean it wouldn't have been good. Everyone that went after Light would have died, and he would have gotten the new world he wanted. That would have been a satisfying ending for Light fans, who are pretty numerous.
