We've heard it said time and time again, PC gaming is not dead, but sometime just saying something isn't enough. This Friday, PC peripheral maker Razer plans to prove it.

As one of the world's top manufacturers of high quality PC gaming gear, Razer has a vested interest in the future of PC gaming. One might expect them to be standing on the sidelines, cheering PC gaming on vigorously while the game makers handle the heavy lifting, but no; apparently they're on the front lines of the battle, and their secret weapon will be revealed on Friday, August 26.

What is this secret weapon? I'm thinking it has something to do with the Razer Switchblade, a micro notebook with customizable LED keys that puts PC gaming in the palm of players' hands. The attractive device made a splash at CES back in January, and I wouldn't be surprised if Razer is ready to bring it to the masses.

Whatever the surprise is, Razer is confident about it. The company even bought a full-page ad in the global edition of the Wall Street Journal, boasting its triumph over the death of PC gaming.

Here's the full text of the Wall Street Journal ad, which can also be found in spoken form at the PC Gaming is Not Dead website:

We have all heard the rhetoric about the demise of PC Gaming - the stories that console gaming will take over all gaming and that PC gamers will be left with shoddy ports of console titles.

The rumors of our untimely demise have been greatly exaggerated. We are more than 300 million PC gamers worldwide and this legion is growing every day. Today there are more PC gamers than all console gamers combined and we have been silent in the face of the closed gaming systems that have been propagated.

We, the PC Gamers, have been here since the beginning and have seen the industry grow to surpass movies and music, and we look forward to an open world where console and PC gamers will stand side by side as gamers in arms.

We are here today to tell you, that on the 26th of August, we will seek to end the silence and bring a new age of openness and innovation to all gaming. Together we shall remind you - that PC Gaming is NOT dead.

GLHF, Razer

I think Onlive and other cloud based gaming services for the PC will keep PC gaming popular when more people has fast reliable internet, and the price for Onlive is so low compared to box games that it is worth it. Like Netflix 9 month for unlimited video streaming.

Plus, Onlive allows even slower computers with slower computer parts to play games in HD video modes.
