I'm not sure if many have heard of Defense of the Ancients. It is a map on Warcraft III the Frozen Throne and it is really popular in my continent! (Asia) Just wondering if there are any who play Dota in this forum too! Hope to make more friends!
Hey there! I'm European but I used to play alot of Dota, in fact, Dota is very popular here in Europe aswell, you just don't notice that much because we are much fewer than the Asian gamers .
Even though I like Dota I gotta say, Dota is currently very old-fashioned, specially since it's based on the WC3 engine which is years old. Because of that, I've migrated to play another more recent game fo the same type: League of Legends. You also have HoN but I prefer the LOL engine and more cartoonish like graphics! It's also a free game, you should give it a try, It's like Dota on steroids
I've tried LoL but because of my geographical region, I'd need to sign up with Garena to do it and Garena has a crappy ladder system that doesn't record stats I think.
I also play DOTA, but I've stopped after I lost my Battle NET account.
Hey actually I think Heroes of Newerth is a better game compared to League of Legends. You might want to consider trying it. Heard it is quite similar to Dota except it has better graphics! I also heard that people from all regions can play it.
Oo, Not played Warcraft, just World of Warcraft, anyone recommend Warcraft? sounds alright
Hey but I heard you cannot deny creeps in League of Legends... Wouldn't that be kind of pointless because it is not a realistic estimate of one's actual skill?
Depends, if you mean measure one's skill in playing Dota then yes, being a good LOL player doesn't mean you're a good LOL Player, I totally agree. But being skilled in this games go way beyond your ability to deny, very important is for example: positioning, item build, farming ability, map reading skill, strategic decisions, and last hitting which is also present in LOL. The only thing that's not present is denying which is something I actually like.. Denying is kinda of anti-gaming in my opinion
- It enlarges the early game imbalance between ranged and melee Champions, and we think it is more fun for all Champions to be at least somewhat competitive at all phases of the game.
- It leads to passive play, and slows down the game. We feel that high-activity; high-action faster games are more fun. By not having denying, there’s a stronger incentive to push. Additionally, it prevents strong lane control which is ultimately about passive play. Team fights more than anything else are what make this genre fun, and faster games mean more team fights.
- It is weird. Killing your own guys?
Aye there, fellow LoL player
League of Legends actually saw that this was something Dota players would miss, and they put in their rationale behind it. Copy and pasting from their website:
Given the slightly different meta-game in LoL, that's definitely true. Dota is made more defensively, but LoL is quite different. I remember in Dota days, there were plenty of wins that came from our team coming out the top in a single team-fight that pretty much gave us the game. I'm not saying this requires no skill or is inferior in any way, but it's different. LoL in general is just faster and more aggressive, and by removing denying, it makes every player farm faster. Cause admit it, you may have fun in the laning phase but ultimately it's when all 10 players get together and duke it out for the mid tower that the game is most fun. If players farm faster, you shorten that laning time and get a lot more "kill-em-all-as-a-team" time. The game also becomes more dependent on working together as a team, while in Dota you could get away with farming up your AGI carry who can kill everyone at end-game.
Hope this helps
