Universal's 3D animated feature film Despicable Me bowed at the top of the North American weekend box office with a better-than-expected estimated haul of $60.1 million.
The toon warded off the debut of Fox's Predators, which took in $25.3 million for a third place finish, according to Box Office Mojo. That's actually a pretty solid opening for the film, which only cost about $40 million to produce.
Last weekend's champ, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, slipped to second place with $33.4 million, while Toy Story 3 was in fourth place with $22 million. The Last Airbender rounded out the top five with an estimated $17.2 million.
Grown Ups was sixth with $16.4 million, Knight and Day ranked seventh with $7.9 million, and The Karate Kid placed eighth $5.7 million.
The A-Team and Cyrus rounded out the top ten with $1.8 million and $1.4 million, respectively.
