Exotic items are getting a total overhaul. Upgrade materials are now purchasable with Vanguard and Crucible marks. The Templar can't be thrown off a ledge anymore.

If you understand any of those sentences, you're probably addicted to Destiny, a video game in which players spend thousands of hours farming for relic iron. And you'll be pleased to know that Bungie just released a patch that will bring a whole lot of potentially game-changing tweaks to the polarizing shooter-MMO. Including one that could prevent us from ever again spending thousands of hours farming for relic iron.

Check out Bungie's site for the full patch notes, which mostly revolve around how Exotic weapons and armor have changed. Almost every Exotic weapon has gotten a tweak or a buff. Also, instead of upgrading Exotics with regular ascendant materials, you'll now have to use a new item called Exotic Shards, obtainable from Xur or by dismantling an old Exotic item.

this came at a GREAT time, I just got some purple gear this last week and was about to start farming the upgrade materials. Not anymore

I agree with adding the ability to buy materials like spinmetal or relic iron. Though they need to add ascendant materials too. (Since it can be tough to get them with any frequency. And when an individual weapon takes 18 ascendant energies... Gets tough to upgrade more than one without a TON of farming.) I wouldn't mind if ascendant materials cost a bit more though to balance out their rarity.  (It'd be useful also because there are times when I have right about 200 vanguard marks but nothing worth buying and I don't want to do strikes but lose the marks I'd otherwise gain from that strike. )

I will say that I'm not a fan of this new system to level up exotics because it means using strange coins to buy the item necessary from Xur. And you can only do that on fridays and saturdays. (Unlike getting ascendant materials which can, more or less, be done on any day.) And having that only available on 2 days is tough because there are times when I just can't get near my system on weekends.

They should have Xur pop in like Wednesday just for selling those needed materials.
