Did Microsoft announce anything interesting at E3 (bar Rare's games)?

I often hear about Nintendo's E3 being a disappointment and Sony's one being the best, but... what about Microsoft? What did they announce? I know they had Rare announce some cool stuff, but anything else?

I didn't watch their presentation since I don't own an Xbox (and they rarely put anything I like out on PC anymore), but about the only thing I've heard anyone talk about has been the holo lens and the backwards compatibility. The holo lens looks really interesting at the least, and the backwards compatibility is neat, but seems a little late in the game to get the same hype it would have if it'd been included from launch. Especially since people who own an Xbox One would have already missed all the deals to get trade in benefits for their old consoles when upgrading to the new.

Microsoft's conference was pretty mediocre. They announced a lot of games but they failed to give any real info or show any gameplay. Recore looks interesting, but we didn't see anything of it.

Halo 5 Gears 4 etc etc. Rise of Tomb Raider. Solid lineup that doesn't interest me personally.

IMO Microsoft won E3.

+ They announced BC
+ Showed sequels to games that people wanted (Tomb Raider, Gears of War 4, Halo 5)
+ Announced a new controller with interchangeable parts (very expensive though)
+ Rare 30 games
+ New Rare game that has nothing to do with the Kinect
+ New exclusive game ReCore being created by Inafune (Mega Man) and Armature Studios (Headed by Mark Pacini, director of the Metroid Prime games)

Ben pretty much nailed it.

Personally, I was not impressed by the new franchises being showed or the fact that almost every game previewed was a teaser trailer with no gameplay and looked like it would run on a 360. however, that was not Microsoft's doing as on the part of MS they were focusing on hardware aspects.

The HoloLens demonstration was kind of a middle finger raise to Nintendo in a way, since they showed how to do AR right.

The backward compatibility was a finger raise to Sony who said they were looking into it and recently went "nah, we gave up on that".

The Ultra Controller will be a great help (assuming it has a D-pad that is not multi-directional when you need precision fighting controls).

That Elite controller thing looks cool, but I can't think I've ever wanted to customize my controller that much either. I wonder how many gamers out there are really going to want to spend $150 on a controller setup like that? Must be a specialty thing I guess. Companies have done a similar thing with computer mouses before in gaming, but I can't think I've seen such a customizable mouse in a long time, at least not in shops- makes me think they're just not popular enough for the required pricing.

The real focus isn't the customization of the controller but that it is made of metal rather than cheap plastic, so less likely to break or have an analog stick go off-aligned like all of my PS2, PS3, and 360 controllers eventually do (I.E. they keep moving when not touched). 150.00 is a hefty asking price, I agree, and not something I'd be worth paying for a controller, but I bet a lot of CoD players will dive into it as well as Halo fans.

I think one of the most interesting things I saw Microsoft announce was the Microsoft Hololens. It definitely looks like a very advanced piece of technology, however I wonder if it'll induce dizziness with the user, which seems to be a problem with a lot of virtual reality headsets. I also thought the Elite Controller looked pretty cool, but I don't think I'll be getting it, to be honest. I don't really see the need for one as I'm not really much of a serious gamer.
