I don't know about any of you, but as I watched the beginning of Microsofts press briefing I was slightly disappointed they started with the new "Call of Duty" trailer. Don't get me wrong, I've played almost every game in the franchise over the years and mostly had a great time with them.
But as time goes on that old, familiar feeling of "meh" sems to creep into my brain whenever the COD hype train leaves the station. And that's the problem I think. THE HYPE. We can basically agree that even if there were no commercials, no videos, no screenshots, and nothing but a single ad that said "NEW CALL OF DUTY: BUY IN NOVEMBER" it would still be the best selling game of the year. We all know what we're getting.
And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. familiarity keeps us coming back for the franchises. Whether it's Maddon, Gears, GTA or any number of others, we all have our favorite franchises. And we will buy them when they arrive. So when the briefing opened with that I wasn't that thrilled. I don't know how much "buzz" it gave gamers in general, but I think they would have done better to open with a new IP for their brand. Sunset Overdrive comes to mind.
Do you stil get excited about COD? What about other franchises? And, as always, if you think I'm wrong, let me know below. I'm often wrong in fact!
