PS3 and Xbox 360 are the popular gaming consoles by technology heavyweights Sony and Microsoft respectively. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are great gaming consoles and are known for their high resolution graphics, wireless controllers, and amazing sound quality. Both of these gaming consoles have many features and again like every other technological battle, PS3 vs Xbox 360 is a fiercely debated topic. Before we go ahead and check the difference between PS3 and Xbox 360, let us know a bit about them.

Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)

PlayStation 3 was first released in Japan and North America in the year 2006 and it went on to become a rage among video game fans. It created a niche for itself in the market as it boasted of amazing multimedia capabilities, online gaming, and Blu-Ray Disk storage medium. Over the last five years, it underwent several changes, and it was redesigned into a smaller version known as PS3 Slim. Currently, 160 GB Slim and 320 GB Slim are the most popular versions of the PS3 Slim.

Microsoft Xbox 360

Microsoft Xbox 360 is the successor of the successful video console Xbox. Upon its release, Xbox 360 was a bestseller with it being sold out all over the world. Japan was the only country where it had to face resistance from its arch-rival PlayStation 2 (PS2). Like PS3, Xbox 360 too has went several upgradations over the last few years and is available in two configurations, Arcade and Elite. Now that we know a bit about both of these gaming consoles, let us try and find out which is better - PS3 or Xbox 360.

Comparison Between PS3 and Xbox 360

* As far as the number of available games are concerned, there are 797 Xbox games as compared to 649 games of PS3. Sony fans claim that as the Xbox 360 was launched one year prior to the Sony's PS3, this cannot be viewed as an advantage for Xbox 360. But, if you are looking at a difference between PS3 and Xbox 360, here we go, Xbox 360 games are more as compared to the PS3 as of today.
* To know the difference between PS3 and Xbox 360 graphics, you can read the Buzzle article, PS3 vs Xbox 360 graphics comparison. The several graphics comparison reviews are inconclusive as everyone has their own favorites, but there is hardly any difference, with both these gaming consoles performing brilliantly to give you a unique gaming experience.
* Both, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have their own online store and users can have access to some amazing games in these online stores. Though Xbox Live comes with an annual subscription charge of $60, you can get many discounts so that you do not have to pay the whole amount, besides you get a lot of players online as compared to PS3 games.
* The biggest difference between PS3 and Xbox 360 is the Blu-Ray disk on the PS3. A Blu-Ray disk allows greater storage of data than the conventional CDs and DVDs.
* The current price of PlayStation 3 160 GB is $280, whereas the price of Xbox 360 4GB is around $200. If you want to go for the higher end models, you can choose the Xbox 360 250GB console for $300. Although, the Xbox 360 compared to PS3 is less expensive, the Blu-Ray disk on PS3 makes it a good value for money product.

To be perfectly honest with the number of people playing both consoles offer practically the same experience with the deciding factor being what you look for in your exclusives line up. PS3 boasts a much larger range of console exclusive blockbusters like Killzone 3, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 as well as some unique and genius titles like Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles. Xbox 360 does have the bigger community and slightly better functionality for social gaming with its party system but to be honest I achieve everything I want socially on my PS3 i.e. communicating with my friends in a game of Call of Duty.

In terms of some of the facts regarding each console I think you are lacking in some information vishal. You say that the 360 is the successor to a successful video games system when the PS3 is the successor to the most commerically successful video games console in video gaming history. Plus Blu Ray allows more than just extra storage space. It has multiple levels of storage allowing for holographic storage to become more of a reality and it also has a much faster read speed as well.

As I don't own a 360 I can't really say I know a great deal about it but it does also have a slim version as well but unfortunately the console has been bugged by the "lack of test" syndrome and almost every new version released has some sort of associated hardware fault with the exception of the elite as to my knowledge.

money is a case of you get what you pay for so enough said there.

Personally I prefer the PS3 as my console. Most of my friends have 360s and tha is fine with me, it gives me an alternative gaming experience when I am hanging out with them but I wouldn't trade that in for my own console which has served me well with its massive catalogue of excellent games and exclusives.

The Xbox 360 Live online play have a better online experience, and the 360 has more popular shooting games exclusive like Halo, Gears of War, Crackdown. There is also Fable on the Xbox 360 which can be considered a shooter RPG since you can use guns to shoot enemies and villagers

The PS3 has more exclusive RPGs like Final Fantasy, SquareEnix, Little Big Planet, etc.

I own a 360, and it has been pretty good for playing Forza 2, Burnout Paradise, and Fable 2. I kind of like the Xbox 360 controller better then the PS3 type controller since the 360 controller seems to fit better in my hand. I own a Xbox 360 for more then a year, and it still works great.

Don't mean to be picky when it comes to details but it's part of my nature I am afraid. Fable 1 is on PC so the series is not Xbox exclusive and Final Fantasy has been released on a Myriad of consoles especially the DS of recent years and of course the 360 for FF13. Halo and Halo 2 were also shooters on the PC as well. Not meaning to steal your thunder here but the games are commerically available on a PC or other consoles so they can't be used as a selling point for one console or the other as almost everyone who owns a console also owns a PC or has a PC in their house.

Actually PC games still have a very good market otherwise companies wouldn't bother with them and if you look at PC exclusives like Blizzard games or the Total war series, they rock the charts constantly. Starcraft 2 sold tremendously well and Diablo 3 is expected to sell massive numbers as is the PC version of Skyrim.

I still think that PC will always have a market for games, especially with Digital Distribution systems such as Steam as well as the reduced price over console games and the better ease when it comes to engine editors e.g. Crysis Sandbox mode. Plus you can hardly say that they hardly sell after you exclude exclusives and MMOs as they kind of make up a huge market on PC. I mean look at World of Warcraft; 11 million subscriptions at £10 a month. That's a lot of cash. You cannnot discount these from the decision as they make up such a big part of the sales level. That's like discounting all shooting games from console sales.

Quake, Counter Strike, Doom series are still popular with computer gamers into FPS. PC gamers are mostly into MMO, FPS, RTS, Sims and indie gaming. PC gaming is also good for looking for free or cheap games to play like Maple Story, Mine Craft, and Runescape.

Free games don't make sales, unless people buy extra things in game. Consoles still dominate the video game market; they always have.

I think that they are both EQUALS. M$'s XBox360, with party chat, and the halo series, and Sony's PS3 with free online, and the God of War series, but no party chat.
