Have anyone here used Discord? It's like having Skype, teamspeak and other services all mash together. You can talk to other people via chat or you can take it further and do a one on one voice chat or even better you can do a group voice chat as well.

This is what it look like:

As you can see you can have many different channels and you can also be a member of many servers (think forums) at the same time.

While this is targeted for gamers I don't see why it can't be use for anything.

I've been getting into it recently, its not bad.

I've heard of it but don't use it. I don't care for voice chat..

I like it better than Skype. Both voice chat and typing to people. Though, it sucks that there's no screen share yet.

I love Discord. It is truly hundred times better than Skype or other similar programs/software. It really focuses on gaming and not only the voice chat but also making smaller gaming communities based on a certain game or a server. You can really easily make your own server (for free) and develop it into something bigger. You can privately share pictures, information and so on that only the server members can see.

Also, the actual voice chat quality is better than Skype's. The microphone sounds crystal clear, no lag and no echo problems. AND I believe it uses far less CPU than Skype does. Win-win.

I enjoy using it for any game, or even if I am not playing. It is amazing.

Yeah, it's really nice. I mostly use it to talk with a few friends because we like how it handles medias and because we found Skype to be a little too invasive. However, we migrated there from TeamSpeak, because we found TS3 to be growing old quickly.
If you're a gamer, I think it's the most ideal solution for small friend groups and large communities alike.

I like Discord as a Skype alternative or a way to chat about casual stuff, but I do also kind of worry about how much information is becoming harder to find due to people treating it like a forum. Invite only Discords are not a good place to discuss specialist subjects that people might want to find out about via search engines.

I would like to think that Discord is the improved IRC that started in the early days of the internet. Yes IRC is still around just that it kinda dying (or already dead).

I remember IRC. I used to chat and people would share their FTP addresses which would be full of pirated PC games. We're talking like 1993-1994 if I remember correctly. Fun times!

I like Discord way more than Skype. Skype was not overly fun to use. It's voice quality wasn't that great and getting groups together was a bit of a pain. (If someone got dropped/disconnected they had to get reinvited which was annoying.) Plus it used a lot of bandwidth to make calls so it lagged things up a bit.

I also like how Discord has multiple servers with then channels inside them. It makes it easy for people to chat easily with each other and not have to add everyone.

(As an aside, does GL have a Discord server? If not... DS have you considered it?)

I've used Discord (rUUHdGn) and it's definitely nice that it's free. However; I find compared to when I ran a TeamSpeak server, many less people engage in voice communication.
