Just read about it from CBR:

The upcoming live-action remake of Hercules was only recently revealed, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo attached as producers for the remake. While potential audiences have expressed excitement over the adaptation of the 1997 animated film, the Russos have expressed that they should not expect a completely faithful adaption.

The film is still early in development and its story has not been completely written, meaning there are a lot of elements subject to change. Anthony Russo recently suggested that the film may not be a musical, "We can't say one way or the other... Music will certainly be a part of it."

The Russo brothers also clarified that they do not intend to do a shot-for-shot remake of the original, like the recently remade Lion King and Beauty and the Beast adaptations. Anthony explained, "Well, I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it's not compelling for us to do a literal translation." He added, "We've already done that with our Marvel films. We don't do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story." He then went on to say, "We're going to give you a different story."

Indeed James Woods did a great job with Hades.

Disney's live-action remake of Hercules is moving along, as producer Joe Russo confirmed that the script was nearly finished and the movie will kickstart a potential franchise.

Speaking to the Lights Camera Barstool podcast, Russo offered an update on the project, which he is producing with his brother, Anthony. "It is still in development, the script is about to come in a week. We’ve taken a lot of time and care with it,” Joe Russo said.

Russo then went on to tease that, much like with the MCU, Disney hopes to build a franchise out of Hercules. “They want to see something really cool that they wanna get lost in it for a decade, so that’s our mission is to provide them with that experience," Russo continued.

Aladdin director Guy Ritchie is returning to helm another live-action adaptation of an animated Disney classic.

According to Variety, Ritchie has been tapped to direct Disney's live-action treatment of its 1997 animated feature Hercules. The upcoming film is being produced by AGBO -- the company led by Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) -- with Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) having been hired to pen the first draft of the script. Variety reports that AGBO is currently in the process of hiring additional writers for the film, which currently lacks a release date.

If it's anything like Kid Icarus Uprising, I feel like I should watch the original at some point.

They are going to have to come up with a different kind of Hades shown in the animated version.
