I stumbled onto this today…

http://nintendo3dscommunity.com/files/file/176-mario-kart-super-circuit-original-soundtrack/

…a pristine, source-quality soundtrack of Mario Kart Super Circuit by TheUltimateKoopa. Now, anyone who's ever listened to GBA music knows that it tends to have a very compressed sound to it, like an mp3 of 64kbps or even less. TheUltimateKoopa's method — which he describes in the post — worked amazingly well.

Unfortunately, TheUltimateKoopa seems to have disappeared off of the face of the internet. I do not have the software or knowhow to attempt this myself, but I was curious if anyone out there does, and if so, would someone be willing to make a few soundtracks for me using this method, starting with Donkey Kong Country 3?

Compensation may be negotiable for your time and effort.

Why do you want the GBA version of the game's OST? Why not just use the SNES version which has an actual CD?

New and completely different music was made for the GBA version by David Wise.

That isn't actually what Fear The Claw was looking for :P

Those are just basic rips from the ROMs. The Mario Kart: Super Circuit music was achieved a much more complex way. By ripping all the individual tracks as sequenced MIDI files, and then playing them in a soundfont that contains all the original instrument samples, in a higher quality.

Unfortunately, this can only be done with certain games, and as far as I'm aware, none of the DKC games are one of them. Infact, Super Mario Advance can be done like this, but not the other 3 games in the series.

There are also other disadvantages with this method, particularly with Camelot titles, and that is that certain samples are not ripped. Infact, this can also be heard in the Mario Kart: Super Circuit upload. E.g. Rainbow Road has a instrument missing. Other disadvantages include pitch bend problems, most notably on Toy Block Tower from Wario Land 4, or Neo Green Hill Act 2 from Sonic Adventure. Otherwise, the quality itself is much much better than the original sound quality of a Game Boy Advance.

That is incredibly disappointing. I was really hoping that this could be done with any GBA game, because I was also hoping for Metroid: Zero Mission and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap soundtracks in similar quality.

Actually.... Minish Cap is one of the games in which it can be done. However, Zero Mission is not, as far as I'm aware.
