Do the opinions of people around an anime affect your viewing experience of that anime?

I just can't help but take note of others opinions as well. What about you guys?

I would rather watch popular anime instead of lesser-known ones so I can at least talk about them in public. But with minor details I could care less.

It's just that I have come across really cool anime with high rating but are not well known
