I often hear that people act more confidently and a bit less moral on the internet, but is it really true?

Do you act the same way on the internet as you do in 'real life', or are there any differences?
 
More or less the same. I'm used to talking to people directly because of my job and all the presentation I had to do in college. That being said I can turn the professional switch on and off immediately.

I'm a bit more confident online in general, but I function largely as I do in real life…in my group that I've established myself in I'm friendly and somewhat outgoing, but quiet and an observer otherwise. I've always been more comfortable observing than doing, I don't see that changing much online. I know I mentioned multiple times back on the old site my default reaction to a lot of posts I started writing was to give up on them, deciding no one wanted to hear what I had to say or it wasn't important enough to post. That's fairly standard for me.
 
I find myself being more respectful and creative on the internet and offline it's somewhat similar but I talk a bit less. Some people have called me quirky irl.
 
These days, yes, but in my youth I acted TOTALLY differently. I was a complete douchebag online, but didn't have the guts to be one in real life. Now, thankfully, I don't want to be a douchebag so I'm the same trying-to-do-better-every-day fellow both online and off. (I think I get more ticked off online, though. Maybe because I don't deal with as many angry bitter people outside of the Internet.)
 
My online life and offline life is the same. I'm very social in person and I'm social online as well. I have a lot of online friends and friends in real life. However, a lot of my friends that know me in person aren't aware of anything that I do online.

That's very true. Especially when I used to game 10+ hours a day I would see it alllllll the time. I used to play WoW a lot. And while most people were fine, there were always that small group of players who just didn't care about anyone else. They would do and say whatever and whenever they wanted. And no, I don't act differently online. If you knew me only through the internet and then met me after let's say one year.. You would completely recognize me.
 
feel I am the same online and offline for the most part. I find easier to express myself online in written media than speaking face to face or recording myself. What I type tends to be what I am thinking and feeling. I tend not to curse and avoid conflict both in person and online, I might open up with some people but that is the same in real life. It's not the same being in private that out in the public.

So yeah, I am pretty much what you would get in real life, I am easy to intimidate and if we have something in common I can talk long about that.
 
I kick it real no matter what I'm doing, be it on-line or not. I'm a flirt, a freak, and an all American nice guy with some twisted thoughts. :)
 
Yes sometimes, I like to be respectful on the internet especially if i dont know people to well, Irl i refer to people as (whats good my boy) (whats cracking dog) I might seem like a bore on the internet but i really like to party and have a good time.

I'm pretty quiet in "RL" unless I feel comfortable with someone. Then I'm a complete nut. LOL
 
I've been called eccentric. :)
 
My thought pattern is quite alike in real. What I differ in:
  • I'm able to sound more neutral online / less emotional when voicing an opinion, which is quite logical considering you get more time to think and aren't rooted on the spot.
  • I tend to keep my thoughts for myself more often for the reasons being: I dislike conflict and I just simply cba.

Somewhat shy both on-line and in RL. Have anxiety even chatting with someone for the first time. :(
