No because memory cards are kind of expensive, but I always worry that my memory card will get lost, stolen or broken and I lose all my game saves for my PS2 games.
I rarely keep a backup of game data in case the original one gets compromised, but I do transfer and organize game data between memory cards to make room for more.
One of the great things about the Wii is that you can use regular SD cards to back up files to your computer by removing the SD card and puting it into your computers SD card reader like how this guy does it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZZt3pgQffU .
Like DynastyGal said, I back up my PS3 saves to a USB Stick. But for my PS2, I make a back-up if its a game file that I don't wanna lose data on. And I make new files when I'm about to fight a boss so I can fight them over and over again (that usually reoccurs on my Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy files

I do that for the movie scenes like FF 7 when shinra is about to fight weapon at Junon and when shinra is about to fire their sister ray at the north crater. epic scenes those are.
