I'm not sure that search results show the true web since few websites are listed on the front page of search results unless they used SEO, and made a lot of backlinks by buying paid links or ads on search results to rank higher.

I don't feel like websites on search results on Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc are a good example of how open the internet is since many sites which rank high in search engine just made a lot of backlinks, hired SEO companies to make them rank higher in search, spammed links, or bought paid links to rank higher.

I think links on forum promotional sites, blogs, forums, social networks and friends and family websites link which are sent by e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc is a better example of the real web since if you are on page 2 or lower on search results few people will find your site unless they go to page 2 which few people go on.
