Yes if you plan to or work at an Electronics store selling electronics to costumers. It does not look too good if your costumers know more about the products you are trying to sell them then you do.

But, for most people staying up with tech probably is not as important as long as they know how to use Wikipedia, and search engines. It will be pretty easy to learn about new stuff in a short amount of time. The daily news, magazines, and newspapers usually talk enough about worthy tech.
