Gas powered bicycles sometimes make a lot of noise, and sound like gas lawnmowers, so they can be somewhat less comfortable to be around for people who don't like the noise of a small gas engine. Electric bikes don't release poisonous gas vapors which is created when burning gas needed to move a gas engine found on a gas powered bicycle.

I feel most electric bicycles are more likely to be better maintained by the electric bike store which sold buyers the electric bike and electric bikes require less maintenance than a gas engine, and gas tank found on a gas powered bicycle where the gas tank and engine can cause a fire or explosion because of gas leak on a poorly maintained gas bike engine.

There is also a chance that some homemade and poorly built gas powered bicycles have gas engines installed on regular bicycles which have wheels, tires, brakes, gears, and chains which are not designed to handle the power and speed of a more powerful gas engine. But, many store bought electric bicycles are designed to obey the law, and be safely driven at the speed limit for biking roads and sidewalks. Electric bike models are also probably tested for many months to years before they are sold to bicyclist.

A electric bicycle electric motor and battery runs at a cooler temperature unlike a gas powered bicycle engine which maybe very hot to the touch, and can burn someone if they bump their body against the hot gas engine. If someone bump a part of their body like their hand against a battery or a electric motor, the electric motor probably won't burn them as much as a gas engine because most electric motors run cooler to prevent overheating. I think a gas engine needs to run very hot for the gas engine to be more fuel efficient and work properly.

To be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable at all.
But I do believe that they need a separate lane.

A separate lane would be a good idea. I think electric bikes make a lot less noise, heat and don't release poisonous smoke, so they are more comfortable to be around than gas bikes which can get very loud, hot, and release poisonous smoke from burning gas, so electric bikes maybe less disturbing for some people near electric bikes.

I personally feel all bicycles, no matter what, should be on the sidewalk, not on the road.
