Yes, mainly because there are fewer or almost no viruses, malware, spyware, and other weird and dangerous software available for Linux Operating Systems like Linux Mint, Ubuntu Linux, Puppy Linux, etc.

But, you can still be tricked with Social Engineering/Phishing in Linux which is a website that looks like Gmail, but has a different domain name which look very similar like Gmai1.com with a 1 instead of an l(L) or Paypa1.com and you put your username and password in and the hacker got your username and password for Gmail and Paypal.

Plus, the browser for Linux like Konquerer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc. Feels more safe then Internet Explorer 5-6.

Also, the software which comes with Linux Operating Systems like Gimp, Pidgin, Evolution, Empathy, etc seems more safe then Randomly downloaded software for Windows.

not really, as the people making them/support them could go under leaving a OS that you must manage and some how keep up to date.

I believe, most Linux Operating Systems are open source, so if one programmer dies, or decided to quit writing code/updates for the Linux Operating System there are still many other software programmers which can take the place of the died/quit programmer very easily since the codes are open source which means anyone who knows how to write code can make updates, programs for the OS instead of just someone who works at a particular company.

Definition for Open source:: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source

Google Chrome is an OpenSource Browsere and OS as well which can be very secure since someone will need to know your G-mail username and password to access your data on the internet.

Plus, there are many versions of Linux like Ubuntu, Mint, Puppy, Debian, Mandrake, Arch, etc, so if one actually does go under due to being unpopular. It is easy to switch to a different version.

Windows stop suporting/updating a lot of their older/ancient OS like Windows 98, ME, 2000, and in a few more years XP and Vista won't be supported. I think they do this to save money and make people upgrade their computer to Windows 7 and future OSes every few years or your stuck with a less secure OS like Windows 95-ME which has more security holes then an Establish Linux Operating System like Mint Linux, or OpenSuse.

I think Non-Windows OS are good for people who get a lot of Windows viruses and spyware since they can't infect a Linux or even Mac OS with a .exe file in almost most cases unless the virus is very well made and know how to installs itself on a non-Windows PC which is unlikely.
