I buy Web hosting off my online friend for one of my websites, and I can contact him by MSN, E-mail, and Facebook. He replies very quickly to my problems sometimes within seconds.
My other websites are hosted with 1and1 which is bigger. Their web hosting costumer support is pretty good in my experience. They responded to my e-mail in less then a day. But, they have more staff, so if one guy is sick another one will respond to my e-mail unlike some smaller web hosts which only have 1 or 2 support staff.
But, one of the main problems of buying web hosting from a smaller web hosting company is that they sometimes buy web hosting from a bigger web hosting company like 1and1 or GoDaddy and resell their space to costumers, so if the bigger web host is experiencing problems some smaller web hosting company which resells web hosting to clients will also experience problems, and the only thing the smaller web hosting company can do is wait for their web hosting account to be repaired by the bigger web hosts.
