Yes, I think a good desktop PC is needed for being a webmaster, forum admin, or blogger since a lot of the times webmasters, forum admin, and bloggers also need to do tasks which needs a more powerful pc for graphic design, editing promotional videos to upload to other websites, and testing out websites offline with virtual machine software like VirtualBox and VMware, or WAMP which lets you test out full websites based on WordPress, phpBB, etc on Windows.

A desktop computer is also more comfortable to use than a laptop, or tablet for doing tasks like forum admin, moderating, and uploading files to a server because of the larger screen on a desktop pc, and more comfortable full sized keyboard, and mouse on a desktop.

Website backup and upload with an FTP client, and using chat programs to talk to site visitors, members, and staff on chat programs like Skype would be faster on a better PC.

I think owning a reliable, and fast PC would make working on a website more enjoyable, and faster.

A lot of Web browsers like Firefox, Chrome, IE, Safari, Opera, etc also need 4GB or more GB of RAM, and a Dual-core 1.9 GHz CPU to run faster, so using a faster PC would make website testing, and making posts on website with a web browsers faster than using a slower PC.

Many bloggers and website owners also  do all website related tasks because many blogs are runned by one person compared to a forum which are more likely to have 2 or more staff for doing different tasks like mod, graphics, coding, and admin work. A blogger would most likely need a better PC because they may have to do all blog related tasks like making graphics, coding, mod, and admin work on a blog.

Well it depends on what kind of admin or owner you are. If you just manage files and mostly online stuff, then you just need a lot of storage, a reliable connection and a PC that runs normally without issues.

If you do a lot GFX stuff then you will need a much higher end machine.

A laptop is good for on the go, but I would say all serious admins should be on a desk top so that all sensitive stuff wouldn't be at risk for being lost or stolen if a laptop goes missing.

Some people use big laptops as desktop replacements though. I've seen a lot of YouTubers use 17-inch laptops, with 32 GB or ram and 3GB graphic cards, that can do everything and more than a regular desktop can.

I think one of the main advantages for Desktops for webmasters is that you can hook up many monitors easily by buying a desktop with a video card with 2 or more display ports, or installing more than one video card into a Desktop.

If you run a very big website, using multiple monitors to view website traffic, server information, Website Database settings,  work on website graphics  like making forum and blog logos and wallpaper, editing large video, and coding mods and plug-ins is more comfortable using multiple monitors on a Desktop where you have more screen space to view all your open files instead of minimizing and re-opening some files to view them on a single display.

A Desktop also has a lot of USB ports for plugging in USB devices like USB flash drives, USB hard drives, and those drawing pads with a pen for making graphics faster, and easier.

Many Desktops also support a lot of older file storage formats like CD/DVD-R disc which some people still use to store their files since it is cheapest.

I agree using two monitors makes editing forum files, and comparing two versions of the same file simpler.

Using two monitors might make posting new topics on forums simpler especially if you mostly copy and paste pictures and text from another website.

Dependes on your tasks. I think now many tasks can be done on laptops and even simpler devices. Not as simple or comfortably but they are still doable.

In fact laptops are fine. That was all I had for my community for over two years, it 8s easy to use one as a desktop if you got the surface and take it with you and resume there.

Although I really rather

I'm not familiar with having two monitors. How do you use them with the same mouse... Does each of them run a different program?
Adding two monitors to a PC expands the usable visual desktop space on your operating system's desktop. Yes, each monitor can hold a different program. You can also setup two monitors to run one program which is useful for drawing programs, and games like Real Time Strategy, MOBA, Racing, and flight simulators where having more screens to display one large video can make using the program, or playing a game more enjoyable.

No way can it be done with a mobile phone or a browser on a gaming device.
Being a forum owner and having to use the FTP and cPanel cannot be done on a mobile device, but being a forum admin and doing tasks in the admin panel can be done on a smartphone. The co-owner of my current community (BeautifulForums) frequently uses her smartphone to do tasks in the AdminCP if she doesn't have her laptop around...

I think it is not a good idea to use a smartphone to admin a forum since you are more likely to hit the wrong link/button on a smartphone, and may accidentally delete a user's post, or mess up a setting in the forum's admin panel.

Also, editing those php template files from within the admin panel of forums, and blogs maybe harder to do because of the small screen.
