Do you need to know a lot of coding, and graphic design to have a site with lots of traffic?

No, I don't think you need to know much or any coding or graphic design skills to create a website which can generate a lot of traffic unless your site is a "website template site" where you sell or give away free website templates which you made.

Many people these days just use phpBB, Invision, vBulletin, other forum software, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and CMSes and buy or use pre-made themes which more skilled programmers made which are optimized for search engines.

Newbie users uses Tumblr, Blogspot, and membership blogs and forums which are free which requires no installing, or design skills since everything is pre-made.

I think what really matters is having a lot of unique and quality content like articles/posts, videos, and pictures on your website, and spending many hours a day promoting your website links on social networking sites, forums, blogs, and other type of sites which allow link backs to your site then the traffic will naturally come to your site when people click on your signature link.

I don't think so either. I mean, I don't got killer designing skills, I just use the default template, and my site seems to be very popular.

Indeed, but money or free staff/volunteers can usually solve this problem. When my forum was more active, there where members willing to volunteer to make the forum had cooler images, or donated to pay for fast web hosting, and custom designs.

There are also a lot of choices for free and paid MODs, so for a few dollars you can buy MODs which improve your forums design, and SEO plug-ins.

The hard part is keeping up with adding content everyday, and promoting your content where other people gather like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, more popular forums, and popular blogs.

Same for me, but some of my members might has lost interest in asian music or joined a bigger asian music forum since I still see some of the members active on huge Asian music forums and blogs when I use my sig link to promote on bigger asian music forums like Soompi.com .
